Oded Lifshitz died in Hamas captivity. His body will be turned over to Hamas tomorrow, February 20. ref: https://www.politico.com/news/2025/02/19/israel-dead-hostages-return-gaza-00204999
- This has happened and has been described in the article. Not by me though.Lova Falk (talk) 14:21, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

Please remove the term "allegedly" from this phrase: On October 7, 2023, during the Nir Oz massacre, Lifshitz and his wife were kidnapped from their home to the Gaza Strip, allegedly by members of Hamas, and their home was set on fire. Hamas has proudly taken credit for the kidnapping and has now returned his body. Using the term allegedly is an affront to the truth. 66.113.24.88 (talk) 14:57, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- It might be because initial reports said it was Hamas. Current reports (in the Times of Israel for example) say it was Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Either way, I agree that it needs a rewrite. Several people appear to be working on it today. Sean.hoyland (talk) 16:37, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- I found an article in The Times of Isreal that said Hamas, so I performed the request. Lova Falk (talk) 13:57, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

I believe the sentence “The group claimed that he was killed in an Israeli air strike” can safely be removed. Perfunctory statements by the murderers need not carry much weight in Wikipedia. Contrary to those statements, forensic coroner reports conclusively say he was murdered in PIJ captivity. Telecart (talk) 22:54, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
Not done They said what they said, and being the abductors, what they said about it is notable. Lova Falk (talk) 14:04, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
Please correct false statements!!!
[edit]There was No prisoner exchange. Hamas took hostages and returned hostages not prisoners. The term prisoner tell us that they did something wrong and are criminals. Which is wrong on many levels. You need to correct this. 24.47.115.240 (talk) 04:33, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- You are quite right, and this has been corrected. Not by me though. Lova Falk (talk) 13:58, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

The article should be more neutral and less pro-Hamas. Also there are just mistakes/lies. For example:
1)
His captors, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, said he was killed in the Israeli bombing of Gaza Strip in late 2023. Benjamin Netanyahu said Oded was "murdered" by Islamic Jihad
Note that the quotation marks on Netanyahu's words and no quotations on Hamas' words.
2)
While Yocheved later stated that she "went through hell," she praised the Hamas militants for their concern about sanitation and health as each hostage in her group received their own doctor and had supervised medicine disbursement.
She did not praise the Hamas militants. And this sentence has nothing to do with Oded's conditions.
3)
On 20 February 2025, four coffins reportedly containing the remains of Lifshitz and three members of the Bibas family were handed over by Hamas
Wrong. Only two members of the Bibas family were handed over by Hamas in 20 Feb.
4)
The chief of the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute said that he was killed in captivity more than a year ago.
The sentnce is written in a way that a reader might think he was killed my mistake or accident. The reference says very clearly "Oded Lifshitz was slain in captivity over a year ago, forensic institute chief says"
So I ask you to correct and bring to more Neutral point of view.192.114.1.67 (talk) 10:58, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your requests!
- 1) I have edited so the citation marks for Netanyahu are now gone.
Done
- 2) There is no article about Yocheved and she was his wife, so she is not without relevance for the article on Oded. In the sources that are used, she also said positive things about those who held her captive. EDIT: I now (27 Feb.) Rephrased, added that she was beaten, and removed the word "praised". I would like the imput from other editors here.
Partly done
- 3)
The sentence says: four coffins reportedly containing the remains. Eventually all three members of the Bibas family were handed over. I don't think this initial mix up is relevant for the article on Oded Lifshitz. But again, let us see if other editors have different ideas!I changed my mind, and made the requested edit.Done
- 4) The word "slain" carries a strong, dramatic, and somewhat archaic tone. The article did not cite him, instead summarised the meaning of what he said. So, once again, I won't edit this. And once again, I am open to hear the opinions of other editors.

Odes Lifshitz was kidnapped to Gaza alive and was Murdered by Gazan terrorists. He did not simply “die in Gaza” 2A00:23C8:728A:3901:F4B3:E3E5:D1D2:C80 (talk) 05:17, 15 April 2025 (UTC)
