Article issues

I'm curious as to why the "Arms" and "Speed enforcement" sections have images clearly lifted from the internet and not specifically relevant to the NT Police. For instance, the pictures of the AR-15's and Taser are not the types used by the NT Police, while the radar andlidar images are those taken from internet sites that have such items for sale etc.

I'm also wondering why the NT Police pages needs to list EVERY section within the Force without expanding on any information about said secion, where other State/Territory pages on Wiki only list major units/sections that have a bit of history/info etc. Seems uneeded and messy in its current layout/format.

Aboriginal deaths in custody

I have deleted this section. No other police article I could find included a list of people shot, much less one focused on a single race of people. There are category pages that list notable instances (Category:Deaths in police custody in Australia, Category:People shot dead by law enforcement officers in Australia, Category:Deaths by firearm in the Northern Territory) and a general page on Aboriginal deaths in custody. Officers involved in the killings of Aboriginal people - Deletion or Modification

The title of this section may lead to an assumption that all of the incidents listed were not justified or ruled a crime, I suggest deleting the section and adding the massicares and other unjustifiable incidents to the controversies section. Another option is to rename the section and/or add a sentence before the list to clarafy both illegal and justified acts are included.

I understand it's a touchy subject for some and people may have opinions on what was and wasn't murder or justified, but the article needs to adhere to rules of neutrality. SNITZ01 (talk) 11:49, 11 November 2022 (UTC)

I've deleted this section and added a few of the better sourced and more recent incidents to controvesies section. Also added context to the Rolfe incident and added 'also see' to controversies that link to massacres in aust, aboriginal deaths in custody, and police shootings. @SNITZ01: I suggest moving the incidents from the "Controversies" section to a new section titled "Indigenous deaths associated with police contact" and remove the See also from Controversies. Melbguy05 (talk) 15:39, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

I think that would be left to the topics in the also see where they can be fully elaborated on (the incidents are covered in those topics) while leaving the more notable and/or recent incidents to this topic. There's also a section in the law enforcement in Australia article that covers Colonial legacy of law enforcement in which some the incidents could be covered. As @VisitingSamG pointed out, no other law enforcement article (at least in an Australian context) provides a section dedicated to indiginous deaths, it would make this and other articles more succinct by keeping historical incidents to the dedicated articles and categories and providing a link to them from this one. @SNITZ01: The section is overwhelming related to indigenous incidents (7 out of the 8 incidents) with the exception of the Chamberlain matter. MOS:SECTIONS - A section heading should describe its content and be "sufficiently precise". "Indigenous deaths associated with police contact" is a neutral heading compared to "Officers involved in the killings of Aboriginal people". WP:UNDUE - It would not be undue weight for a separate section now that you have made a condensed list of the incidents added by Dippiljemmy. The Chamberlain case can remain in the separate section headed "Controversies". The article Aboriginal deaths in custody, the List of massacres in Australia and the Category:People shot dead by law enforcement officers in Australia do not have any other Northern Territory incidents so I don't see the value in adding section hatnotes for them. Ranks

New section Notable former Northern Territory police

@Aliceinthealice: Hi, I have never seen a notable officers section in a police force/service article before. Generally, in terms of officers, articles list the former commissioners. What is notable about these former officers? regards, Melbguy05 (talk) 09:24, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Melbguy05; a number of these officers were already listed under 'see also' so I created a section for them specifically and added other officers that have Wiki articles; these officers mostly have pages for actions that took place during their periods of service and the fact that as early officers they played significant roles - many of these have been on Wiki for sometime. I am, however, adding people (including police officers) who appear in the NT Dictionary of Biography. Cheers Aliceinthealice (talk) 00:40, 22 July 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Aliceinthealice: you haven't established what is notable about these former officers with a WP:REF that can be WP:V. It seems to be an indiscriminate list of former officers that any editor can keep adding to. It could be considered to be MOS:TRIVIA. regards Melbguy05 (talk) 03:23, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
