Massacre section

[edit]

Section has no references nor validated sources and reads like an opinion piece. Requires rewriting with sources referenced. Has no links to 2023 Hamas - Israel war. 140.228.32.52 (talk) 04:01, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nir Oz massacre

[edit]

Please help expand the three line section at Nir Oz#2023 Israel–Hamas war and make it into a full article about the Nir Oz massacre: "according to one report, 240 of the community's 400 residents were either missing or confirmed dead." Thank you, IZAK (talk) 03:13, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Text starting "According to one report..." almost always contains misinformation. It must be replaced when a proper count is made, which should be soon. Zerotalk 04:23, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. But in the absence of official reports, the best we can do is summarize the conflicting accounts. I was trying to itemize the casualties but that was reverted, so "according to one account" and "according to this other guy" is what we're left with. jengod (talk) 04:27, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And the list of victims is contrary to WP:NOTMEMORIAL, which is policy. So adding to that is a waste of time as it will be deleted sooner or later. Zerotalk 06:13, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

History section

[edit]

The history section should go back further than the 1950s, otherwise it reads as ideological. What is the history of the land in the first part of the 20th century and earlier? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.124.79.85 (talk) 16:21, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

According to Salman Abu Sitta's, "Mapping my return", Nir Oz (together with Nirim, Ein HaShlosha and Magen), was built on Abu Sitta's land. Unfortunately, Walid Khalidi does not cover this area, but can we use this information, somehow? Huldra (talk) 22:50, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Huldra Yes I think you can just cite Sitta. Now, I can't promise that there won't be debates about "Is Sitta even a reliable source?!" but those debates can be processed by the community in due course. But if it's in a published book with a page number, I would definitely go for it. jengod (talk) 22:59, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

👍 Another project is...does this place have (a pre-1949?) name in Palestinian Arabic? If we can find a reliable source we could add that too, since we have the Hebrew etc. jengod (talk) 23:52, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to this org area was known as
Ma'in Abu Sitta village (معين ابو ستة),
part of the Arab al Ghawali (عرب الغوالي) clan of the Tarabin (ترابين)
tribe. Article needs updating promptly as people come to this page for information

Uncited claim about trees and "parched" in intro

[edit]

Intro claims area was devoid of trees and water in potential ecological bias towards legitimacy of the military-began settlement, without citation, and a strange place to put such information. The natural ecology of the area prior to both settlements and the nearby separation walls is heavily disrupted by introducing non-native plants, and the walls prevent fauna from crossing in their natural grazing lands. The ecology of the plains are harmed by the walls as overgrazing by livestock is difficult to avoid. Suggest removing or moving the uncited claim to a different section and linking the relevant article on Biodiversity In Israel-Palestine to better establish the facts and avoid first paragraph bias. Biodiversity of Israel and Palestine#:~:text=89% of Israeli planted forests, the biodiversity of the region. Shriftkey (talk) 11:40, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Maps - can overlays / variants be created for partition plan and 1948 borders?

[edit]

Per title, this seems like relevant and valuable information. Is there a technical limitation? Could I be guided on how / where to add it? Is there an ongoing discussion regarding inclusion of this kind of information? TIA <3 unmi 11:49, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

include Arabic Names for the site prior to 1950s military settlement alongside Hebrew settlement names Ma'in Abu Sitta village (معين ابو ستة),

part of the Arab al Ghawali (عرب الغوالي) clan of the Tarabin (ترابين) tribe, orchard gardens.

according to this org as citation [1]

Remove biased uncited claim about 'parched area without trees' from intro, instead state that non-native plants have been introduced and link relevant article on Biodiversity instead. [2]. Shriftkey (talk) 11:54, 5 June 2025 (UTC) see my post on talk page for article Shriftkey (talk) 11:54, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I added the previous name and removed the unsourced claim abut "parched area without trees" from the lede. Please provide a reliable source that non-native plants have been planted in Nir Oz; a wikipedia page is not a reliable source. Rainsage (talk) 23:56, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Under the Ecosystem tab, in the second paragraph, stated and sourced that a eucalyptus planting program - non native seeds makes up a large amount of the growth in the Nir Oz, reliable citation is there.
Please in either this section and lede state: "This has pattern of settlements introducing non-native plants has raised <ecological concerns*>." - and also link* the prior relevant broader wiki Ecology in Israel-Palestine should users wish to read more on the topic. If the invasive species planting project is relevant enough to be in the lede then cite there.

also adding that citation [33] in that same second paragraph under ecosystem is page-missing broken and needs amending 2A02:C7C:6ADF:3300:3162:81AE:BD8D:8BE7 (talk) 02:37, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
