Reversions

[edit]

This edit is being restored multiple times without explanation. There are a number of issues with that edit, most significantly the use of an unreliable source - as per WP:BURDEN this material should not be restored without reliable sourcing. Nikkimaria (talk) 03:23, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ScbtobbS:, please stop restoring this with the poor sourcing still in place. Nikkimaria (talk) 04:49, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is a reliable and correct source. You are vandalizing and not cooperating. You also change the dates I found from archival work. This is vandalism ScbtobbS (talk) 04:51, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ScbtobbS, no, it is not a reliable source - it is user-generated, and the consensus of the Wikipedia community is that it is generally unreliable. You need to provide reliable sourcing for all content before restoring it, per our verifiability policy. Nikkimaria (talk) 04:55, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is reliable in this case. You are vandalizing the page I wrote. And you just did it again ScbtobbS (talk) 04:57, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
ScbtobbS, declaring it reliable does not make it so, and this claim has no source at all. Nikkimaria (talk) 04:59, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This date is present in one of the personal letters. I can send you a copy if you want ScbtobbS (talk) 05:03, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Unpublished sources like personal correspondence do not fulfill the need for reliable sourcing. Do you have any published reliable source supporting this date, or the claim about burial? Nikkimaria (talk) 05:06, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The personal latter is published in University of Sydney archive. And I have people in Australia verifying the burial site. . ScbtobbS (talk) 05:08, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Personal experience also doesn't count as reliable sourcing, unfortunately - you don't have anything published that would meet our reliable sources guideline? Nikkimaria (talk) 05:11, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I provided everything I have. You are vandalizing. ScbtobbS (talk) 05:12, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Then ALL dates are unreliable in your opinion. ScbtobbS (talk) 05:13, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No - many dates can be supported by reliably published sources such as obituaries, biographies, etc. But unfortunately in the absence of such materials here, we do need to omit the claims. That's not vandalism; that's policy. Please keep in mind that whatever you post here is expected to meet our site guidelines and policies, and is open to editing by others. Nikkimaria (talk) 05:16, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to bring this person out of obscurity and you are blocking me. This is against the policy. These are correct sources. And they are the only sources in existence. I am the main expert on this scientist. ScbtobbS (talk) 05:20, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There is no policy that supports including details that cannot be verified by reliable published sources. Unfortunately your own personal expertise is not something that can be cited. Nikkimaria (talk) 05:22, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am not citing my experience. I am citing published sources. I am just saying that the sources were cross-checked. ScbtobbS (talk) 05:23, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Cross-checking makes the course reliable. ScbtobbS (talk) 05:24, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
While some dates can be cross-checked, these dates only exist ion the sources I have. ScbtobbS (talk) 05:22, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Then they stay out. I appreciate that's not the answer you want to hear, but that's the only possibility given what has been presented so far. Nikkimaria (talk) 05:25, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Why is an archive letter not a reliable source? ScbtobbS (talk) 05:26, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is it available to the public? Nikkimaria (talk) 05:30, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, it is published by the University if Sydney. I have multiple links on the page. ScbtobbS (talk) 05:32, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Which link shows this particular letter having been published? Why not cite that? Nikkimaria (talk) 23:52, 30 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK. It is reference 3, the University of Sydney Archive. You go there, find the file series 1581, then file "Letters Sent by Professor Max Robert Schafroth Relating to His Appointment at the University". The birth date can be found at the end of page 24. I did not cite it initially because I did not consider it critical for the story. I am going to cite it now. ScbtobbS (talk) 17:42, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It does not appear that that source includes the son's name - what source supports that? And were you able to find a reliable source on burial? Nikkimaria (talk) 00:42, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
