Family Religion

This article states they were Methodist but Tolkien_family#Mabel_Tolkien states they were Baptist. Both are referenced. Which is right, or were they both? 1.126.106.28 (talk) 21:14, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Mabel's father attended a Methodist College and he later became a Unitarian (cite notes 2 and 7), whereas her sister's husband Walter Incledon was Anglican (note 7). The Baptist side of the family were her in-laws, John Tolkien's family (cite note 5, p. 17). All three of these groups/individuals are reported to have opposed Mabel's and May's conversions to Catholicism. SapientSquid (talk) 16:48, 27 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
