Headstones Destroyed
[edit]November 2022, video purporting to show systematic destruction of monuments (including on graves and headstones) to MS-13. ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/yp9w94/el_salvadors_fight_against_gangs_takes_a_new_turn/</ref> Maybe too new, but this seems like it might be a significant cultural action.
Addition to etymology
[edit]Salvatrucha also has the colloquial term trucha in it. Which in cholo slang means look out. Salvatrucha is a portmanteau of salvadorian and A Look out(someone watching out for cops etc.). Thanks for your time!
MS-13 gains recruits and power in U.S. as teens surge across border -WaPo
[edit]The rise in violence has hit especially hard on Long Island and in Boston, Houston and the D.C. area, with authorities linking dozens of killings to the gang. MS-13's new push has been fueled by the recent influx of teenage immigrants like Danny, who traveled to the United States without guardians to escape poverty and gang violence only to fall back into it here, according to a Washington Post investigation that included reviews of dozens of court cases as well as interviews with local and federal law enforcement, attorneys, families and immigration experts.
[1]
This internal migration has coincided with a spike in the number of UACs arriving
in the United States. Many of these UACs have settled in areas where the MS13 has
a presence, and a significant number have been charged with crimes in or near the
areas where they settled. (Jouvenal, 2017) Law enforcement experts consulted by
InSight Crime said they believed there was coordination – from the top down – to
There is no evidence that gangs determine or finance international migration.
InSight Crime and CLALS / MS13 in the Americas 61 position these migrants. Some experts even said the migrants were “coached” by the
leaders, so they could successfully get past US immigration officials

" which was officially enacted on February 20, 2025, making such groups officially terrorist organizations.[17]" should be written as "President Donald Trump signed an executive order initiating the process to designate various drug cartels and transnational gangs, including MS-13, as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs). This was officially enacted Feb. 20, 2025 classifying such groups as terrorist organizations." Fatboy dan (talk) 14:43, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
Done I agree that the previous wording was a little clunky. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 20:43, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
What's this statistic supposed to say?
[edit]In 2018, the gang's US membership of up to 10,000 accounted for less than 1% of the 1.4 million gang members in the United States, and a similar share of gang murders.
I would assume that the second "United States" is meant to be worldwide, but I don't have a source so I won't make any such change. --Uketni430o (talk) 16:02, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- I believe the statistic is supposed to mean that MS-13 makes up approximately 10,000 of the suspected 1.4 million total gang members in the United States (or <1%). Additionally, the number of gang-related murders in the United States attributed to MS-13 is also around the same percentage (around 1%). However, given that we both read the same passage and came up with different interpretations means that we should probably reword it. 98.247.41.169 (talk) 23:53, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, right, "total of all gang members" being total members of "all gangs in the US", rather than "total of all members of the gang in question". It didn't occur to me to contemplate members of all gangs. Possibly because I'm not sure what is or isn't a gang so it's not a thing I would ever try to count. But I guess somebody did. --Uketni430o (talk) 20:32, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Your interpretation is completely valid. The sentence should probably be reworded to be crystal clear what was unintended. Unfortunately, the sentence is uncited, so without doing my own research, I'm not sure which interpretation is correct. 98.247.41.169 (talk) 16:05, 16 May 2025 (UTC)

The information in this article is incorrect.
[edit]Although the MS gang in El Salvador originated from The MS-13 gang from Los Angeles, they are only incidentally connected. The 13 in the MS-13 gang is mostly a California title. It represents the blessings and control of the California Mexican Mafia over them. Although some MS members in El Salvador are MS-13 members (because they lived in the US and were later deported), very few members of the MS members in El Salvador are MS-13 members. They have little to no connection in leadership. In the US, there are many MS-13 members who are not even Salvadoran. And Salvadoran MS members would never take orders from the Mexican Mafia. They are not even from the same culture and have completely different chains or command with no relation or coordination between them. 66.74.129.178 (talk) 02:02, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
