West Asia hyperlink in the 'Around the world' section should be removed
[edit]In my opinion, the West Asia hyperlink in the 'Around the world' section of this article should be removed to maintain consistency within the article as no other tabs in this article have hyperlinks in their title. Xboxsponge15 (talk) 19:29, 6 May 2020 (UTC)
- Good call, I think. I took care of it. In general, we don't wikilink section headings per MOS:HEAD. I'm not sure we need the "West Asia" phrase at all, given that Middle East seems straightforward, but I'll leave that for someone else to sort out. Larry Hockett (Talk) 19:38, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Etymology
[edit]Repeated vandalism from January 2008 and November 2012 has inserted nonsense into the etymology section that has never been removed. Correcting. --Mindset615 (talk) 14:32, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
5PM?!
[edit]Why is the time for lunch in the opening section given as "around 5PM", when the times given in every other section of the article ranges between 10AM at the earliest and 5PM at the absolute latest? Surely giving the average of around 12PM to 2PM would make more sense?
The source cited for the 5PM number (which I don't actually see in the Google Books preview) even says lunch is a meal consumed in the early afternoon, which seems to contradict the number being cited.
I appeal to everyone's common sense: Restore lunch to its rightful time.

typically consumed around the middle of the day, following breakfast and preceding dinner - OR SUPPER?
[edit]It seems our definition of "dinner" is the "the biggest and most formal meal of the day". That's not strictly tied to any specific time. I think it's common for people such as farmers to take their largest meal ("dinner") around the middle of the day both because they then have so much physical work to do afterwards and also to rest during the hottest part of the day. So, saying that lunch precedes dinner doesn't seem entirely accurate.
We seem to be defining supper as "the term for the main evening meal". That is tied to a specific time of day - and the end of the day. So lunch will always fall between breakfast and supper.
Should we change the opening line of this article to be this? "Lunch is a meal typically consumed around the middle of the day, following breakfast and preceding supper." 97.89.132.168 (talk) 13:51, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
