Musical artist infobox

[edit]

Am I the only one who thinks that this infobox is inappropriate for an orchestra? We currently have that the LA Phil was "born" in 1919, that its "occupation" is "symphony orchestra" and that its "associated acts" include the Hollywood Bowl orchestra and its "members" are Salonen, Borda etc. Perhaps we could create our own infobox with more appropriate titles? Grover cleveland

I totally agree. I have the same problem with an article I'm working on about a choir (Akademiska Sångföreningen). Right now I'm using a generic infobox, but a template for larger musical groups (orchestras, choirs etc.) would be needed. I'm too new a Wikipedian to be able to do anything about this myself right now, though. Kaspersu (talk) 10:33, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seconded. The infobox for the orchestra is, in my view, just about completely useless. "Associated acts"? What on earth would they be for an orchestra? "Associated organizations," maybe. And are the only members of the orchestra those listed here? Of course not. That template was designed for pop performers; the consensus at the classical music project here in WP-land has been to remove these boxes. I will do so unless there is a huge outcry within the next day or two. --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 23:27, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

List of musicians

[edit]

Should this be deleted? I don't think many other orchestra wikipedia entries have them, if any. Plus, it's almost not worth updating regularly, it would seem. DJRafe 03:33, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cant believe the above view. I thought the whole point of wiki was to pass on information. I for one would need a list of members and possibly for the hollwood bowl orchestra covering start to now as im looking to trace a relative who i believe was a viola player in the hollywood bowl orchestra during 60s or 70s, so i guess that would put her in this orchestra. Her name was Dixie Black. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.107.82.172 (talk) 20:32, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I forked the l-o-o-ng list of recordings to its own article. The article was 45 kilobytes, and the longest we really want is 32 kB so it's easier to use by folks who have slow connections or older computers. I also did a little style editing, but it needs more. Great work on the discography, btw – KrakatoaKatie 03:23, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. I thought of creating it as a seperate page from the get-go, but wasn't sure about it. Happy that some find/found it useful (Westofpch (talk) 05:58, 19 March 2008 (UTC))[reply]

YOLA or other Learning Programs Suggestion

[edit]

I know that YOLA has its own standalone article, but there appears to be no mention of LA Phil's focus on Learning Programs, and that YOLA is a critical part of the LA Phil programming. At the very least perhaps a "See Also" link, but I think a section on Learning Programs would be appropriate and easily sourced:

I think adding information on the Composer Fellowship Program (and possibly also Symphonies for Schools, the National Composers Intensive, etc.) in such a section would also be great. Noahfgodard (talk) 17:13, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

LA Phyl and COVID 19

[edit]

On August 1, 2020 around 30 musicians from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, members of Local 47 (Los Angeles, CA), returned to the outdoor stage of the Hollywood Bowl for the first time since the pandemic’s shutdowns, to rehearse for the capture of product to be released under the new COVID-19 side letter to the IMA. Even though the Hollywood Bowl remains closed, the services were able to take place under the Reopening Protocol for Music, Television and Film Production Agreement: Appendix J issued by the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.

According to a report in Senza Sordino, the ICSOM newsletter, the string players were masked and sitting at least six feet apart, while the wind players were 12 feet apart and surrounded by plexiglass. Under these rather unusual conditions, the orchestra performed a program that included Beethoven Symphony No. 7, with Gustavo Dudamel conducting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:586:5400:1110:5BC:4A17:E26E:1FFE (talk) 07:02, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
