electroencephalographically

[edit]

According to Merriam-Webster, electroencephalographically is the longest word. (27 letters)

Strengthed and schmaltzed do not appear to be real words.

[edit]

This article lists the words strengthed and schmaltzed as the longest 1 syllable words. But, I can't find any evidence that either of these words exist. They seem to be grammatically incorrect uses of the words strengthened and schmaltz.

I checked several dictionaries and found neither word. I found their root words, strength and schmaltz, but no verb form of either that could be used in the past tense by appending -ed to it. Making them grammatically incorrect.

For exampled, you don't say "lifting weights strengthed me" you say it strengthened me.

Neither of the claims has a citation. Which should be as simple as providing a dictionary entry. At least as a start, just to show that the words exist.

What do you guys think? VoidHalo (talk) 01:47, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A word is missing from the list.

[edit]

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is not in the list, it would normally be right underpneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis in terms of length. K O N T H I R T Y (talk) 19:52, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Longest place in Canada

[edit]

When I visited the Wikipedia article for the place listed as the longest place name in Canada in this Longest Word in English article, I read that the location listed in this article has lost its title as the longest place name in Canada. I don't know the proper way to update this article, but I am calling attention to this because I think that remove or updating the inaccurate information would be helpful.
