Improvement of this List
[edit]Proposal: Please change COMPLETE list !
Take this List [1] the users make less wrong entries and the list shows the missing arktikels + proposing a correct title.
I do not dare to change this, due to my poor experience. Regards --Dan Wesson (talk) 10:08, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Adding new pistols
[edit]If you notice that a pistol isn't mentioned in the table then please add it yourself. If you don't know how to, instead of leaving it, please add it below and I'll do it for you. Thank you Ajpralston1 (talk) 20:11, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

The Borchardt C93 pistol is missing.
Zastava M70
[edit]On the page, link is inaccurate, it guides to a M70 rifle (7.62mm), but Zastava M70 is also a designation for pistol of the same manufacturer. It's made in caliber 7.65mm.93.87.156.137 (talk) 22:58, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
CZ-52
[edit]Is completely missing from this article. It is a robust semi-auto chambered in 7.62x25mm. It is one of the few pistols in that caliber that can handle the Czech 7.62x25mm ammo. Zeelog — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.164.37.128 (talk) 12:08, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Need for an extra type category (at least for the Welrod)?
[edit]I can see that the Welrod is designated a "single shot" pistol. This is not quite correct, as it is in fact a bolt action pistol, which raises the possible need for an additional category within "Type". It might be easier to either add an asterisk, or leave the "Type" field blank for the Welrod, if it is the only example of this rather peculiar (for a pistol) operating mechanism. Merge proposal
[edit]I propose merging List of semi-automatic pistols into List of pistols. There is significant overlap between the two and it would be easy to just add action/rate of fire (single-shot, semi-auto, full-auto/machine, harmonica-type and lever-action) to the columns. Revolvers should still be kept separate. -- TrickShotFinn (talk) 12:41, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with your point here, and it sounds like a good idea because the separation criteria between the two seems murky. Support. Yet, I wonder if we could split the page by continent? Its large size currently decreases its usefulness. JuxtaposedJacob (talk) | :) | he/him | 08:20, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- @JuxtaposedJacob: If there is a split, I would split it either between pistols introduced in either 20th and/or the 21st century or pistols which production has ended and those which are still being produced. Another option is to divide between eras, akin Lists of wars - like 1900-1944 and 2003-present and such. -- TrickShotFinn (talk) 12:31, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
- I like the first idea. JuxtaposedJacob (talk) | :) | he/him | 15:34, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
- Though there is a problem that there are also pistols introduced in 19th century - like the Harper's Ferry Model 1805 and Mauser C96. There are quite few of them, but not enough to justify a complete century dedicated to them. I lean more towards dividing them into 1800-1945, 1946-1989 and 1990-present. -- TrickShotFinn (talk) 13:18, 17 March 2025 (UTC)
- I agree that there should be some sort of division, either by location or year. I opened the editor on List of pistols and it slowed down my browser. Note that there are two items that were introduced prior to 1800 according to the list (Howdah pistol and Bajō-zutsu). Would sorting by type be another option, keeping semi-automatic and then having other lists for other types? I don't know enough about firearms to say whether there would be huge overlap there, or if a large portion of pistols can have multiple firing mechanisms. Otherwise, time period would probably be the best option. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 21:46, 26 July 2025 (UTC)

- TrickShotFinn & JuxtaposedJacob, is this still something you're interested in? This is currently one of the oldest active merge discussions, and I don't think there would be any opposition to a merge given the overlap. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 🛸 20:53, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
