March 3 in the USA

March 3 in the USA is "Constitution Day" in the USA, the anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution. It's also "Citizenship Day", which honors those who are new citizens. It's not "Liberation Day" within the definition in this article.jeff.lopez-stuit 15:12, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kuwait

Mali

Missing "Tag der Befreiung" in Germany, May 8th

The 8th of May is a rememberence day for the liberation of Germany (and Europe) from national socialism, see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_der_Befreiung - according to this article it was a holiday in the GDR (as far as I now, it is not (and was not) a holiday in West-Germany) (the 9th of May is listed in the list as liberation day in Guernsey) --Cholo Aleman (talk) 08:05, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

United States entry

I have removed the entry for the United States and placed it here for discussion:

This is not a public holiday, nor is it an official designation; January 20th, 2025 was actually "Inauguration Day" in the United States. The term "liberation day" was used as part of a political speech by the incoming president, referring to the day as "liberation" from his political opponents. Trump has since moved on to use the same term to describe April 2, 2025, when he plans to implement more tariffs. Unless someone can provide solid proof that "Liberation Day" has any official standing in the United States, it should not be entered in this list. Ckatz (talk) 17:30, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

- As mentioned previously, there is nothing to suggest that January 20 is officially "Liberation Day" in the US. Before it is restored, it needs to be discussed and solid references found. This is what Trump said: "For American citizens, January 20th, 2025, is Liberation Day."

An inaugural address does not make law, but it is an official occasion, constitutionally recognized, etc. It's essentially a presidential proclamation.

Trump has dubbed at least 3 days "liberation day" source: election day, inauguration day which you've mentioned, and today, April 2, which is by far the one discussed most in reliable sources.

Even if we wanted to include a US "liberation day", the reliable sources would indicate adding April 2. I agree with you. But in my opinion you are attempting to make reality seem saner than it is, so that Wikipedia will seem reasonable. The fact is the US has a president who repeatedly declares "Liberation Days." Is it Wikipedia's job to correct him and insist there is only one, and adjudicate between them? Is there an international standard that there must be only one - designated according to an agreed-upon "official" status - and is the US government bound by that standard?

Election day definitely shouldn't be included since if was a casual reference and he wasn't president.

For January 20, it's in his inaugural address and he has repeated it at least once

For April 2, it is not mentioned in the White House press release or tariff executive orders. But the page of praise they posted includes many politicians using the term, and they posted a video titled, "Happy Liberation Day, America!"

The edit I reverted was the first edit that person ever made on wikipedia, which they made without participating in the discussion at all. The article history clearly shows that the addition of this information came unexplained, by IPs, and was unverified.
