March 3 in the USA
[edit]March 3 in the USA is "Constitution Day" in the USA, the anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution. It's also "Citizenship Day", which honors those who are new citizens. It's not "Liberation Day" within the definition in this article.jeff.lopez-stuit 15:12, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Kuwait
[edit]The definition as it stands right now referrs to 'secession from another state' but that hardly seems the right term for Kuwait. I'm not sure what a better phrasing would be, though - any ideas? Fasrad 03:13, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Mali
[edit]There is no mention of a Liberation Day in Mali on Nov 19 (or any other day) on Public holidays in Mali. Where did this info come from? - Shadzane (talk) 01:08, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- The Japanese Embassey lists it as 22nd September, at least at http://www.mofa.go.jp/about/emb_cons/over/country/mali.html 212.159.18.158 (talk) 13:55, 13 April 2010 (UTC)
Format
[edit]Some of the place names are in italics but I'm not seeing an explanation of why. PurpleChez (talk) 12:07, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
May 10 on Sark
[edit]According to the Wikipedia entry "Victory in Europe Day" the Island of Sark in the Channel Islands celebrates May 10th. ☺ Dick Kimball (talk) 19:03, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Missing "Tag der Befreiung" in Germany, May 8th
[edit]The 8th of May is a rememberence day for the liberation of Germany (and Europe) from national socialism, see https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tag_der_Befreiung - according to this article it was a holiday in the GDR (as far as I now, it is not (and was not) a holiday in West-Germany) (the 9th of May is listed in the list as liberation day in Guernsey) --Cholo Aleman (talk) 08:05, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Trump's use of the term regarding tariffs
[edit]BBC News today [1] states that "the US president ... prepares to unveil a massive slate of import taxes on Wednesday, in what he has called America's 'Liberation Day'". 2A00:23C5:FE1C:3701:A5:DA0C:1279:B6F0 (talk) 09:39, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
United States entry
[edit]I have removed the entry for the United States and placed it here for discussion:
"| United States of America
|January 20
|2025
|Declaration by President Donald Trump during his inaugural address"For American citizens, January 20th, 2025, is Liberation Day." The Inaugural Address, January 20, 2025.
|Liberation Day"
This is not a public holiday, nor is it an official designation; January 20th, 2025 was actually "Inauguration Day" in the United States. The term "liberation day" was used as part of a political speech by the incoming president, referring to the day as "liberation" from his political opponents. Trump has since moved on to use the same term to describe April 2, 2025, when he plans to implement more tariffs. Unless someone can provide solid proof that "Liberation Day" has any official standing in the United States, it should not be entered in this list. Ckatz (talk) 17:30, 31 March 2025 (UTC)
- Neither of these are official Liberation Days, it's just what Trump called them. These shouldn't be on the list of official Liberation Days. GN22 (talk) 15:54, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- As mentioned previously, there is nothing to suggest that January 20 is officially "Liberation Day" in the US. Before it is restored, it needs to be discussed and solid references found. Otherwise, we'll end up with April 2nd as "Liberation Day" as well since Mr Trump is using that term for his tariff day as well. Ckatz (talk) 18:43, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- I support not including April 2 as a US liberation day. However, given that the page has 8k+ views, I added a "for" template at the top for ease of navigation. This can easily be removed after the interest dies off. satkara❈talk 21:56, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- True, it was more exaggeration. Cwater1 (talk) 12:38, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
Happy to discuss the USA case while the text remains in the page. Is there a requirement for "official action" for days on this page? Has the standard been applied to all cases? Is it described on the page? I think the answer to these questions, so far, is "no." Yyyikes (talk) 11:57, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- I'm sorry I didn't see the other thread! (Always forget talk pages have most recent at the bottom.)
- This is what Trump said: "For American citizens, January 20th, 2025, is Liberation Day."
- An inaugural address does not make law, but it is an official occasion, constitutionally recognized, etc. It's essentially a presidential proclamation.
- If he names another day liberation day, too, it won't be the first idiotic thing he's done. Then we can discuss whether a country can have two liberation days. Why not? America does things more. Yyyikes (talk) 12:06, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Trump has dubbed at least 3 days "liberation day" source: election day, inauguration day which you've mentioned, and today, April 2, which is by far the one discussed most in reliable sources.
- Even if we wanted to include a US "liberation day", the reliable sources would indicate adding April 2. Colloquially I think we know that none of these dates are on par with the other liberation days on the list and that no one except Trump and his team is actually using the term. satkara❈talk 14:01, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- I agree with you. But in my opinion you are attempting to make reality seem saner than it is, so that Wikipedia will seem reasonable. The fact is the US has a president who repeatedly declares "Liberation Days." Is it Wikipedia's job to correct him and insist there is only one, and adjudicate between them? Is there an international standard that there must be only one - designated according to an agreed-upon "official" status - and is the US government bound by that standard?
- It's a hard question, IMO. Maybe the answer is to list them all in one entry with an explanatory note explaining the different dates. Yyyikes (talk) 16:07, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
- Election day definitely shouldn't be included since if was a casual reference and he wasn't president.
- For January 20, it's in his inaugural address and he has repeated it at least once
- For April 2, it is not mentioned in the White House press release or tariff executive orders. But the page of praise they posted includes many politicians using the term, and they posted a video titled, "Happy Liberation Day, America!"
- So January 20 seems the most official as of now. Yyyikes (talk) 12:48, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose – um, TRUMPCRUFT? 🐔 Chicdat Bawk to me! 11:36, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. No-brainer...it's not an official holiday, and this page is about official holidays. Theodore Christopher (talk) 16:43, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- Note: Yyyikes is now blocked for edit warring, especially because if anything there is consensus against inclusion. Drmies (talk) 23:13, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- Weird, I thought we were supposed to be discussing changes on the talk page. The edit I reverted was the first edit that person ever made on wikipedia, which they made without participating in the discussion at all. I was attempting to protect the process, which they were undermining. Yyyikes (talk) 05:15, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, we discuss changes on the talk page and if need be we reach consensus. You don't have consensus. The article history clearly shows that the addition of this information came unexplained, by IPs, and was unverified. The first big removal was here, by a well-established editor, and then you started your run. Drmies (talk) 16:34, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- Rest assured I have no further interest in this page, but note I added the USA entry in January (with citation), where it was uncontested until April. I did not add the April date. Yyyikes (talk) 01:18, 7 April 2025 (UTC)

- Strong Support, it is highly notable (now with its own article), has indirectly led to a stock market crash and has drawn criticism from around the world. Félix An (talk) 09:13, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
