Sir Lawrence John Verney TD - military service

Sir Lawrence Verney was the Commanding Officer of 299 Field Regiment Royal Artillery Of the Territorial Army (TA)headquartered at Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. He was responsible for four batteries, P Field Battery RBY, ( Royal Buckingham Hussars), Q Field Battery QOOH , (Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars), R Field Battery ( The Berkshires) and supported by Headquarters Battery RBY. The unit had TA Drill Halls in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and North Hampshire. It was armed with 25 Pounder (Pdr) Field guns and was part of 43 Wessex Brigade. Among its many memorable events was the manhandling of guns to the summit of Snowdon; several annual inclusions in the 4-Day marching events at Nijmegen in Holland, and providing a Guard during the State Funeral of Sir W C S Churchill, a former Battery Commander of Q Battery. 299RegtRA(TA) (talk) 19:27, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
