Ason, Legalism, Qin Shi Huang

[edit]

In the 姓氏家系大辞典 (linked here) and partially 日本三代實録 (Wikisource text, archived text) a couple of things that might be of note are stated — the Koremune clan receiving the Ason title and the Koremune clan being notable for their expertise regarding law. Koremune no Naomune's great-great-grandson, Koremune no Masasuke (later Yoshimune no Masasuke), seems to be of note as a scholar (mentioned, among other things, in 小右記, which can be accessed here.

Also stated in 日本三代實録 (and mentioned in 姓氏家系大辞典 and 姓氏明鑑) is the claim that the clan is descended from Qin Shi Huang (this is written on the Hata clan page, but might also be worth mentioning here).

A quick disclaimer that I'm not very knowledgeable on clans or Heian history, and especially not classical Chinese, so my readings might be off the mark. Splendidfoolisheditor (talk) 04:00, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[In regards to Koremune members and their accomplishments]
It is fascinating information. I will try to read it myself and add it to the page. I'm surprised I missed the part where the clan was given the Ason title. Seems like it would be something I would have noticed from the very start. The descendants also having prominent roles within Japan can also be a nice sub-heading within the article. Duly noted.
[In regards to Qin Shi Huang and Hata clan]
As someone who has studied extensively about the clan, I believe it will be too confusing to add this information as it has been thoroughly explained in its dedicated page since the claim is multi-faceted and more complex (etymology of Hata, concept of Toraijin, existence of Yuzuki no Kimi, etc) and the sources provided are books published centuries after the Shinsen Shōjiroku which in and of itself is quite controversial. So I think the only information that needs to be added right now are historical facts that can be backed by archaeological evidence which is that the clan basically came from Korea.

But regardless, thank you for your feedback. It has provided much needed reviews and suggestions that I will most certainly go over. Asieon (talk) 04:56, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your work, I think that it's a great bit of dedication.
I haven't read the sources as close as probably preferred, but I'll try to take a look through what I found. I can't say anything for sure, but maybe something new could pop up as a decent addition. I'm glad that it can be of some help.
Not sure if there are good English-language sources on this clan, and for now I only looked at old and historical documents. Splendidfoolisheditor (talk) 05:50, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
After reading your suggestions, I have added new information to the article (pls check the article's history). There is more information in Japanese sources but it's going to take time to go through each one and figure out which ones will be appropriate in the English article.
I will eventually take more time to appraise more sources, but as of right now, the info based on your feedback on top of the pre-existing knowledge is good enough I think.
Thanks again for your input. Asieon (talk) 05:59, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
