I'm actually reluctant to expand this article on the basis of the German article because, however good it may be, it has no reference sources. Opus33 (talk) 15:42, 26 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is this article about chapel-masters everywhere, or about German ones?

[edit]

I just looked at the "what links here" and find that many articles are linked from the comparable term in other languages, such as "maestro di capella" or "chapel-master". This is awkward, because "Kapellmeister" has obvious implications of Germanness.

A possible remedy is to have very short articles for those other languages, letting them link to Kapellmeister for more detail. I believe there is no legitimate word in English that means "music director for a nobleman or church in historical times," and we obviously should not try to invent one. (Of course, "chapel-master" does exist, but it doesn't seem to be used much today.) Opus33 (talk) 04:57, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
