This section was tagged for 'jargon' and seems to technical and rather trivial so moved from article to talk page. RJFJR (talk) 22:37, 22 August 2010 (UTC) {{Cleanup-jargon|date=July 2007}}[reply]

KTAB/KRBC has the market's only fully-digital local news delivery system. For field acquisition, the News Department currently uses Sony DSR-PD150 professional, handheld, 3CCD camcorders, utilizing the broadcast-quality DVCAM component digital videotape format (the only tape in the news "chain"). All editing is performed using cutting-edge, Windows XP-based Avid NewsCutter XP nonlinear editing software. Raw footage transfer is accomplished using a digital FireWire connection between the camcorder and editing PC, and the finished, ready-to-air video is sent instantly to playback servers located in master control. It is anticipated that tapeless, high-definition camcorders will be in service by 2010.

Broadcast-standard Betacam SP (component analog) and DVCPro (component digital) videotape formats are still used in the Production Department for EFP (Electronic Field Production) acquisition, as well as server ingestion in master control.

The News Department currently utilizes three electronic news gathering vans that allow remote, terrestrial microwave "live shots" from almost anywhere within a 20-mile radius of Abilene. By the end of 2007, a fourth van is expected to be operational. With the concurrent installation of remote digital transmitters and receivers, the two stations' "live" news coverage area will be expanded to include most of the viewing area, including the Brownwood region, 80 miles from the studios. Also see 2 GHz project above.

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material

[edit]

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 21:53, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

At the time, KTXS-TV in Sweetwater was a dual affiliate of CBS and ABC,[3] though it heavily favored ABC: Explicitly state why this is relevant to KTAB

Terry poached a number of key employees from KRBC-TV: I'm assuming he had left KRBC by this point?

Can "Abilene's cable system" be linked?

When KTAB signed on, KRBC dominated the Abilene market's news ratings, obtaining as much as 80 percent of the audience -> "When KTAB signed on, KRBC owned 80 percent of the audience share": Conciseness and less editorial

By 1985, its 10 p.m. newscast attracted a 52 percent share: Either "had attracted" or "was attracting" depending on whether the source says this was typical at the time

At the same time, Nexstar acquired KLST in San Angelo and consolidated traffic—the scheduling and logging for commercials—for the San Angelo stations in Abilene: I don't think I quite understand this sentence. Do you mean Nexstar re-arranged their ad scheduling to better support "the San Angelo stations in Abilene" (I don't understand that quoted bit... how can a station be in San Angelo and Abilene?)

  • Traffic is a behind-the-scenes function. Essentially, San Angelo began getting back-office services from Abilene. These days playout for TV stations might be hundreds of miles away — five sites handle all of Nexstar's stations, for instance.
