"physician-scientist" is an inaccurate descriptor

[edit]

In this article, Jay Bhattacharya is said to be a "physician-scientist", but this same article later correctly mentions that Jay "never had a residency/fellowship and never practiced medicine". The Wikipedia article for the term "physician-scientist" defines a "physician-scientist" as "a physician who divides their professional time between direct clinical practice with patients and scientific research", which explicitly does not apply to Jay given that he does not (and has never) participate in clinical practice. I'm not sure what descriptor better describe him, which is why I did not just edit the article myself, but I wanted to highlight this inaccuracy so more experienced Wikipedia contributors could fix it. Actually, I went ahead and deleted the "physician-scientist" descriptor myself since another descriptor was already there. Edit can be found here:

Feel free to revert if appropriate, but if so, the Wikipedia article for "physician-scientist" would need to also be updated to be consistent. Niemasd (talk) 20:41, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We follow what reliable sources say. The profile on Jay Bhattacharya cited is by Steven M. Albert, a chair professor at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health who specializes in health sciences, who described JB as such. He's certainly an reliable source and used the "physician-scientist" descriptor.  GuardianH  20:56, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
