Baldwin in Istanbul

[edit]

How did you manage to avoid any mention of Baldwin's time in Istanbul. He lived most of the sixties in Istanbul. 109.37.154.105 (talk) 09:07, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thé article talks about his Istanbul stays at some length in the section ‘World traveler and “transatlantic commuter”’. My information is that he did several lengthy stays, but only lasting a few months each. For example the first stay, where he completed Another Country lasted only 2-3 months. I will check out your assertion that he was essentially resident in Istanbul for 10 years and make any necessary changes to the article. Dr Dobeaucoup (talk) 11:11, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, 109.37.157.105.
I made some changes in response to your comment. Dr Dobeaucoup (talk) 17:18, 17 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting to see that his ISTANBUL period is not mentioned propery. He was friends with the wellknown writer Yaşar Kemal, which is not mentioned at all (but others) . i advise to dig more into this ..as even courageous thinkers as he was, are also vice versa influenced... 46.196.72.170 (talk) 11:36, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am proposing a small addition to the Legacy and critical response section of the James Baldwin article. After the sentence discussing the 2016 documentary I Am Not Your Negro, I would like to add a quote from Baldwin: A writer is by definition a disturber of the peace. This addition highlights Baldwin’s own view of his role as a writer and emphasizes how his work challenged societal norms and continues to influence literature, activism, and culture. Let me know if there are any concerns.
