I came across this page while looking at good article nominations, and am concerned that it doesn't hold sufficient notability per WP:NSONG to warrant a separate article. The vast majority of the sources used in this article are review of Elephant itself, which do not constitute notability, and the only sources which are not about Elephant or the White Stripes as a whole are:
- Songfacts, which is not a reliable source per WP:A/S
- Musicnotes, which is not independent given that it's been published by their record label
- The Quietus, which is the best shot of this song's notability, but still only gives one paragraph of prose in a much larger article
- Nashville Scene, which is effectively a passing mention of the song given that the article primarily talks about Jackson's cover of it and not the original song
- NME, which is ditto to above in regards to Tracey Thorn's version
As such, I'm not personally convinced that this song deserves a separate article from Elephant. I would normally bring this sort of article to AfD, but out of respect for you having nominated it for GA, I'll first post something here to give you a chance to address it. - @Watagwaan: Pinging in case you missed this, as the GA nominator and the creator/primary contributor to this article. Leafy46 (talk) 01:12, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not opposed to its removal if it really warrants it, but the reason I believed it met notability was:
- It was a rare Meg White feature on vocals, and some believed it helped to prove her worth in the band especially contemporarily (at the time she got a lot of criticism and mockery).
- It was acclaimed by several publications including The Guardian — who even ranked it among the best of the band.
- While I understand and acknowledge the articles don't speak exclusively of the song, there was still enough information for me to write into its own article.
- I did have the FA mentor Qen. Quon review the article before submitting it for GA review.
- Whatever the final decision is, I won't oppose it. Watagwaan (talk) 01:36, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Okay, so I did some extra digging and found one more source solely about the song. I'm not a big fan of using AllMusic as a source, but it is technically reliable, so I'm (very marginally) satisfied with this song's notability between this review, the prose in The Quietus, and the two covers of this song included in the article. Aside from that, the unreliable sources of Songfacts and Medium (see WP:MEDIUM) will have to go before this article has a shot of becoming a GA. It would not hurt to add in this song review either. Cheers. Leafy46 (talk) 02:20, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Awesome! Thank you so much for reconsidering, and for your help! I very much appreciate it. Watagwaan (talk) 12:29, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- With these changes now added, is it eligible for a GA review? Watagwaan (talk) 12:49, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- It looks a lot better now as a whole! I'm a bit burnt out from reviewing GAs at the moment from the May backlog drive, but I wish you luck with whenever this article does get picked up. Leafy46 (talk) 21:41, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
