Did you know... that the Buis(pictured) was first adapted for use as a fishing vessel in the Netherlands, after the invention of gibbing made it possible to preserve herring at sea?
Hello, I have an issue with the citation number one. It cites de Vries and and van der Woude concerning the size of the Herring fishing fleet. The title of the book is not cited correctly. The thing is the most probable book, that is probably The First Modern Economy, does cite the fleet size of 400 but in a complete other context.
I cite : "In the mid-sixteenth century, when the herring buss fleet of Holland alone already numbered some 400 vessels and other economic activities were yet of rather modest scope, these partenrederijen must have formed one of Holland's most important fields of investment.
I think that the passage of the text is completely misused and an appropriate source must be found.
