But why "Gray Angels"?

I came here specifically to find that out. Is it just because they all fly grey aircraft, and it's just a second, competing, Naval display team (for some reason), or is grey somehow associated with the flag officers, and it's a play on words to emphasize the fact that all the pilots are admirals?
