Naming conflict
[edit]Apparently "Gorgonocephalus" means both an extinct synapsid and an extand Gorgonocephalidae echinoderm. Anyone know which takes taxonomic priority, and what the new name is of the other? Mokele (talk) 18:29, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well, in that case, why nominate this for deletion? It simply needs to have different content. FunkMonk (talk) 18:45, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Gorgonocephalus → Gorgon's heads – More interesting common name, plus it connects to the scientific name. My main source atm: https://niwa.co.nz/oceans/critter-week/critter-week-gorgons-head-gorgonocephalus Blockhaj (talk) 19:59, 3 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose "Gorgon's heads" can also refer to stuff like statuary, not just marine animals. The scientific name is more specific, and there isn't sufficient bulk evidence that it is not the common name. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:30, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Statuary like what? Blockhaj (talk) 19:21, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Here is one example of a Gorgon's head sculpture. Here are other examples of it being used in art. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:55, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
