Symptoms section is incomplete: missing infection of rectum, eyes, and throat

[edit]

There are many sources for this info (including my own experience - NOT cool!). But here's what the mayo clinic website describes: (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gonorrhea/DS00180/DSECTION=symptoms)

"Signs and symptoms of gonorrhea that affects the rectum include:

   * Anal itching
   * Pus-like cutty booty from the rectum
   * Spots of bright red blood on toilet tissue
   * Straining to have a bowel movement

Signs and symptoms of gonorrhea that affects the eye include:

   * Eye pain
   * Pus-like discharge from the eye
   * Sensitivity to light

Signs and symptoms of gonorrhea that affects the throat include:

   * Sore throat
   * Swollen lymph nodes in the neck"

Can the text changed to be trans inclusive (e.g. list symptoms for those with penises instead of men, etc)

[edit]

It's important for sexual education be inclusive for those reading it 157.131.169.212 (talk) 08:49, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This jumped out at me, too, and I made a few changes to the opening paragraphs. It would take a long time to do a complete copy edit. I have not taken that on at this time but would support such an effort and may return to contribute one section at a time. -- MYCETEAE 🍄‍🟫talk 16:46, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Follow "having sex with only one person who is uninfected" with ", having sex with multiple people who are uninfected", or replace it with "having sex only with uninfected people". The current phrasing is inaccurate in that it omits sex with multiple uninfected partners as a preventive measure. It has rather obviously been included as as a political claim in favour of monogamy and against promiscuity than as a factual assertion about preventive measures. That the alteration will drive the kinds of people who say such things wild is only an additional benefit. 175.39.70.181 (talk) 00:05, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: The cited sources say monogomy with uninfected partner is a preventive measure. Please provide sources to support your requested change. RudolfRed (talk) 18:01, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gonorrhea spreads from infected people, specifying monogamous relationship is redundant.

Prognosis section

[edit]

There isn’t much information on the typical course of the disease when given treatment. As in, how long does it last with typical treatment and how does the course of its development differ from untreated disease. 2603:6010:11F0:3C0:9089:19C9:6683:83BD (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

From

Prevention: Condoms, having sex with only one person who is uninfected, not having sex.

To

Prevention: Condoms, avoiding sex with infected people.

Reason The number of uninfected sexual partners is irrelevant in prevention. Xapheneon (talk) 11:34, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Day Creature (talk) 18:47, 17 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
