Capitalization
[edit]I'm sympathetic to the fact that most English-language sources capitalize Gin Basil Smash (to cherry-pick some that don't: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]), but from an aesthetic standpoint (and per WP:CAPITALIZATION) the lowercase "gin basil smash" feels preferable. The name of the cocktail is merely descriptive, and the precedent for cocktails on Wikipedia is to only capitalize words that themselves are proper nouns (e.g. Mary Pickford named after Mary Pickford, Remember the Maine named after the USS Maine). Also note that the IBA website capitalizes every cocktail name, e.g. Old Fashioned, so that isn't really something to go off of. BanjoZebra (talk) 19:31, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- Jungle Bird, which I capitalized, is a weird case—it doesn't have anything inherently capitalized in its name, but I truly could not find any sources that didn't capitalize it, so I felt I had no other choice. Aesthetically I still feel like it should be lowercase... BanjoZebra (talk) 19:33, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- That's fair. Frankly, I just wasn't sure how to put it in lowercase once I'd done uppercase. Feel free to adjust it if you feel strongly about it. Would you do it by moving the page from "Gin Basil Smash" to "Gin basil smash"? Penguinsprite (talk) 05:23, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
