Merge?

[edit]

Having this article be seperate from the Liberation Day tariffs article is a bit strange to me. Should the two be merged? MontanaMako (talk) 15:36, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think it makes sense to keep the two separate, since Liberation Day tariffs focuses on the event, whereas this article specifically is about the executive order signed at the event JParksT2023 (talk) 17:19, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Merge Absolutely idiotic to have three articles on the topic: Executive Order 14257, Liberation Day tariffs, AND Tariffs in the second Trump administration. These should ALL be merged to reduce redundancy, or at least two of them. Executive orders are not inherently notable on their own just because they're executive orders, they should be covered in the context of what they're about. I disagree, I think all three pages serve separate functions. As I noted, Liberation Day tariffs focuses on the event, whereas this article specifically is about the executive order signed at the event, and Tariffs in the second Trump administration focuses on the Trump administration's policies on tariffs overall (to be updated through his administration as well), real differences. This can be seen, for example, with Executive Order 13769 and Trump travel ban, where one is specifically about the executive order and one is on the policies of the travel bans, including all EOs signed on this topic. Similarly, Executive Order 14257 and Tariffs in the second Trump administration can be different articles because one is encompassed in the other but still stands alone as its own substantive piece of policy. Additionally, the Liberation Day tariffs article encompasses more than just the EO by focusing on the entire event and the policies outlined that day, and it has enough notability to be its own article, as demonstrated by the AfD discussion, so they can remain separate. These articles may have overlap, but eliminating the substantive distinctions between the three is unnecessary (arguably WP:NOTPAPER). JParksT2023 (talk) 17:40, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's absurd, I see now that Executive Order 14257#Tariff responses is simply excerpted from Liberation Day tariffs#Tariff responses. Liberation Day tariffs#Background is a copy and paste of Liberation Day tariffs#Background. So this page has ZERO unique content, and nothing at all that is "specifically is about the executive order", nor would information in the order not be well-served at the tariffs article. Utterly unnecessary. As there is literally nothing to merge in the first place, I have taken the liberty to redirect it, and you may propose a split if there is actaully content that warrants it.
