Smartdrive washing machines

[edit]

The Smartdrive washing machines produced by Fisher and Paykel use a dog clutch at the base of the inner bowl / basket. For the wash part of the cycle, the water level in the outer bowl causes the basket, containing the clothes, to float up and disengage the dog clutch, allowing the motor to turn the agitator without turning the bowl. When the spin cycle begins, as the water is pumped out, the basket floats down and engages the clutch, so that the motor can spin it directly. The machine performs a "bowl check" to check for engagement of this clutch before starting to spin. (Have to find sources for all that stuff) PatrickDunfordNZ (talk) 23:53, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
