Splitting proposal

[edit]

hey guys, im not sure why the Detroit street circuit article is similar to this one. i propose that some assets from the Detroit street circuit article to be merged into this article. there's multiple racing series (such as IMSA) under the INDYCAR page and we should make separate pages for them. also, was it really nessasary for F1 information to be under INDYCAR? i already deleted that entire blurb.

the Detroit street circuit article should be about the history, different circuit layouts for CART, INDYCAR, F1 and more, and lap records. i see no point on lap records to be under this article.

i know about the footer above the Detroit street circuit but i propose we just do what i said above.

(NOTE: this is my first time proposing something so if I didn’t sound clear, please reach out to me on my talk page.) Brycenrichter (talk) 20:37, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are actually three articles that need some attention. There is the original article - which was meant to cover the Formula One race - Detroit Grand Prix, which ran from 1982-1988. There is the second article Detroit street circuit, which arguably is an unnecessary article that should merge its information into the others and become a redirect. Some F1 street course races seem to have two articles, one about the race and one about the track itself. but I don't think that is set in stone, and certainly does not appear necessary here. Then there's the third article - Detroit Grand Prix (IndyCar) - which picks up in 1989 and covers the various iterations of the Indy car races. that's obvious the more current and active article.
Detroit Grand Prix (IndyCar) had been cleanly addressed in recent times, and the recent edits - blanking and eliminating the header - were not constructive. The attention will instead focus on integrating the content of Detroit street circuit into the other two, and making Detroit street circuit a redirect. DoctorindyTalk 14:11, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am opposing to split the Detroit Street Circuit article. I am aware that street races and street circuits have their own article in the US, but it should be better to have different article for the Detroit Street Circuit. Apeiro94 (talk) 04:51, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
