Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on David Carpenter. Please take a moment to review my edit. You may add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it, if I keep adding bad data, but formatting bugs should be reported instead. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether, but should be used as a last resort. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

Not commuted

[edit]

The article claims that Carpenter's sentence has been reduced to life without parole. I believe that is incorrect. Governor Newsom has instituted a moratorium on executions as long as he is in office, and has abolished "death row" understood as a physical location where all condemned male inmates are held, but he has not actually commuted many (if any) death sentences. This LA Times article, published today, describes Carpenter in the present tense as "California’s oldest condemned inmate".

Formally speaking we have a clash of sources here, but the existing source looks poor, even compared to a newspaper, and seems to have misunderstood what it meant that Newsom had gotten rid of death row. --Trovatore (talk) 21:34, 1 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
