Hey, I am excited to review this. Expect comments in the next few days :) DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 07:42, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
Hey, well done for your work on this article! You have made a great start to it 😊 Here are my comments. Once these have been addressed, I will do a further check for any other issues and a source spotcheck.
1.) For the background, is there any way that you can talk about the usual way that Cyprus selects the song for the competition? And could you add a sentence about the 1999 Eurovision contest (e.g. "it was announced on x day that it would take place on y day")
- I pulled together some yearly sources to try to consolidate the process, but there isn't a single ref that makes the connection that I could find. While they had been doing very similar national finals throughout much of the 90s (if not all), overall they've varied in how they've selected their act over their participation history. \ Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
2.) Final – is it possible to translate the 1999 show in English?
Done Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
3.) Could you please say who Loukas Hamatsos is (e.g. are they a singer?)?
Done. I could add a secondary source for his description (which isn't mentioned in the source listed now), but I feel it would be misleading since it would be a modern source? Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
4.) Could you please specify what "Bang" is? Is it a band?
Done Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
5.) Is it possible to translate the song titles for English speakers?
Done Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
6.) Is there any information on the chosen song? What motivated the people to choose it, what the lyrics are about, the inspiration for the song etc?
- Not that I could find. It's tough because I'm sure there were tv specials and magazines about it, but it was 26 years ago and not English, so a bit difficult to track down. Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
7.) "In addition to the performances of the competing entries, Hatzigiannis, Konstantina, and Spyros Spyrakos were also featured during the show." – Could you please clarify this? Who are these people are what did they do in the final?
Done Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
8.) Promotion – "played in the background" – could you please clarify this? Was it in the background of the nightclub as dancing music or just when she came in etc?
- That's all the source says. In the stainless steel and marble environs of the club, located on the top floor of a building on Nicosia's Stassinou Street, showbiz writers gathered to meet singer Marlain and her entourage, while the song's video played in the background. Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
9.) At Eurovision – Could you please expand by what you mean by "political voting"?
- I added a wikilink to Voting_at_the_Eurovision_Song_Contest#Regional_bloc_voting, but this is a more broad claim by the source. An alternative wikilink could be Voting behavior. Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
10.) Is there a way to link "betting odds" or use more formal language?
Done Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
11.) Lead – "The result was seen as unexpected as Cyprus had been considered likely to win the contest in betting odds" – It does not actually say in the article that the result was seen as unexpected, so I would change this sentence
- I adjusted the wording. If the sources say they'll win/do well and they don't, this should be a natural conclusion. Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
12.) Are no free images that could be used for this article? Perhaps of Giorgos Kallis and/or the International Convention Center (Jerusalem)?

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions or need any assistance of course! :) DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 04:52, 10 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for reviewing! I should be able to take a look on Sunday! Grk1011 (talk) 19:54, 12 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @DaniloDaysOfOurLives: I think I've got most of your comments addressed. Please take a look at the couple responses I have above and let me know if they're acceptable. Grk1011 (talk) 02:42, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Grk1011: Thank you so much for your changes, they have improved the article :) I have spotchecked Sources #1, #19 and #21. I have noticed one of other thing - in the sources not in English, could you please put the language parameter so readers know which language the sources are in? But other than that, I am going to pass this - well done! If you find more sources/information please do add it as it will further strengthen the article! :D DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 04:13, 18 June 2025 (UTC)
