word for whale

"Kwénis, which means "whale" immediately struck me as "quanice" the usual Chinook Jargon rendering of the word in that argot for "whale"......I'm not sure of its origins, could be Nooktan/Southern Wakashan but if it's from the Chehalis language, as many CJ words are, could be that the Comox word was similar; but also CJ words are now pervasive in some local languages and not recognized as such; just a note, no bearing on the article.....Skookum1 (talk) 10:04, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
