First Meeting

[edit]

The first meeting should not include when the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Giants first played eachother. Wolf O'Donnel (talk) 23:09, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bay Bridge SeriesAthletics–Giants rivalry – The rivalry between the two teams will still exist in the short term (at least through 2027), though the scope of the rivalry will be zoomed out from the Bay Area (San Francisco/Oakland) to that of Northern California (San Francisco/Sacramento), being that the A's will play in West Sacramento for at least the next 3 seasons. By changing the name of the page to only include the team names, the scope of the article can better accommodate the new SF/Sacramento reality beginning next year.

The Bay Bridge Series is now firmly in the past, but maybe the page move should be delayed until the two teams meet again (whether that be moving the page on the day of the next game of May 16, 2025 or before Spring Training 2025). Alternatively, maybe it's better for it to be effective immediately since the "Bay Bridge Series" is now in the past. Separate subjects

[edit]

I disagree with the beginning statement and premise of this article: "The Athletics–Giants rivalry . . .". The article title is Bay Bridge Series, and the only subject is the Bay Bridge Series. It was a rivalry based exclusively on the geographic proximity of the two teams and their overlapping fan bases. There was no "Athletics–Giants rivalry" before the A's moved to Oakland, and any continuation of that rivalry now that the Athletics are moving to Las Vegas will be only because Bay Area A's fans are not all going to move to Las Vegas. For the same reason, all infobox entries should be restricted to the names/dates/places of the Bay Bridge Series. This article is not about "all time" or current home stadiums. WCCasey (talk) 14:53, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A's stadium

[edit]

@WCCasey - Regarding your edit here; as we potentially move the article to "Athletics-Giants rivalry" and include stats and information from the 2025 season (after the A's have moved out of Oakland) it makes no sense to not mention their current home ballpark.

We could still mention the Oakland Coliseum in the infobox as

Stadiums Athletics: Sutter Health Park; formerly Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum

although other rivalry articles don't use this format. Best to get consensus from other editors. MilaKuliž (talk) 19:50, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article move seems unlikely to happen. If it does, however, it would have to be edited to include current info. WCCasey (talk) 14:42, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I had updated the stadium because 2025 stats have been added which led me to believe that this article is still being updated even after the A's moved out of Oakland. I won't change it again until there is consensus from other editors. MilaKuliž (talk) 02:37, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
