To name this series of failures and blunders as "colonial empire" requires a lot of imagination. Pavel Vozenilek 09:55, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Map

[edit]

That map seriously needs some references. When did Austria-Hungary (1867-1918) colonize Belgium? -- 10:44, 26 October 2018 46.107.117.4

The Hapsburg dynasty ruled over the Netherlands from the time of the 1477 marriage of Mary of Burgundy to Maximilian of Austria -- in later years (down to the Napoleonic wars) only the southern or "Spanish" Netherlands. AnonMoos (talk) 18:24, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Franz Joseph land farce protest.

[edit]

It is farcical to include the Artic Circle expedition in this article as a colonialization attempt, since that region was known to be uninhabited, except for polar bears. Thus Austria-Hungary didn't intend to enslave the native peoples, exploit their labour and rob the riches of their lands. Do we call Amundsen and Scott colonialists? Is oppression of polar bears colonialism but oppression of penguins isn't? The whole notion is so bizarre it can only be derived from anti-catholic bigotry, since the House of Habsburg-Lorraine were well-known to be the most catholic monarchs, even recognized as such by the Pope. 94.21.237.8 (talk) 21:03, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Hungarian objection to the acquisition of Rio de Oro"

[edit]

The source the paragraph uses isn't available online, while i have 2 sources that bear no mention of the Hungarian parliament having anything to do with the negotiations falling through Marcell231 (talk) 22:29, 4 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
