Lead section
[edit]- Although no longer listed at MOS:LEADLENGTH, the old rule of thumb was that leads for articles with 15,000–30,000 characters should be two to three paragraphs in length, and I think that fits well here. I would recommend that you split the lead section for pure aesthetic reasons, but again, this isn't necessary.
- Done. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, the second paragraph is kind of short if we do this. Given your ambivalence, I changed it back to one paragraph. There's not really anything else that's lead worthy unless we want a line about his high school career? ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:45, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Done. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- PFA gives his jersey # as 51, not 52.
Early life
[edit]- Add comma after city-state combo: "Vernon, Texas from 2003 to 2006" → "Vernon, Texas, from 2003 to 2006"
- Link senior
- Fix "He was named the Most valuable player of the MVP"
College career
[edit]- Link linebacker
- Try to start paragraphs with the subject's surname rather than "he/she"
- "which was the second perfect record in team history" → "which was the second perfect season in team history"
- Done. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- In that same sentence, add a piped link to 1950 Abilene Christian Wildcats football team
Professional career
[edit]- Are you able to find a source for when he signed with the Argonauts?
- The ProFootballArchives transactions source does not specify that he signed a futures contract with the Bears on Dec 31, 2012.
- Changed. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Change the URL for source 19 to https://www.cfl.ca/players/aston-whiteside/159239/#transactions
- Did you find a source mentioning Whiteside in their Grey Cup win?
- I couldn't find anything on Google, Newspapers.com, or the Wayback Machine. Physical newspapers used to print team rosters before games but that's not as common nowadays. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Source 30 does not verify the date he was signed.
- Changed. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
References
[edit]- Add his college bio as an external source.
- I don't really like to do that if it's already a reference. Then people try to add his pro bios too. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- Add |via=[[Newspapers.com to applicable citations
- The only semi-questionable source is Tireball Sports, which I'd never heard of. Are you able to find a better source for this?
- Changed. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 12:43, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
General comments
[edit]- Is there anything you read during your research that can be added for a personal life section? The only thing I can glean from the article is that he grew up as a Cowboys fan. There was also the tidbit about his cousins as teammates.
- I couldn't really find anything else besides the two things you mentioned. I looked up his Bears bio in the Wayback Machine but didn't see any details. This said he likes listening to music but not really sure that's worth adding. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 14:29, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- No stability concerns in the revision history
- Copyvio score looks good
I'm placing the review on hold to allow the nominator to address the points raised above. JTtheOG (talk) 06:19, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
- @JTtheOG: Addressed everything, I believe. ~WikiOriginal-9~ (talk) 14:29, 27 May 2025 (UTC)
