@Cloventt I see from WP:GLAM/Ashburton#Articles_to_improve that you have expressed interest in improving this article. It would be great to have the article expanded and given a broader focus than cricket. Ideally the infobox would be changed to Infobox protected area or Infobox park etc. I have added a new section about the establishment, but will leave it for you from this point.:)-Marshelec (talk) 00:23, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Marshelec, I had intended to get into this but I had a hard time finding good sources. A few sources have subsequently been added to Wikisource, and I ended up spending my time transcribing those instead of working on this article. We also had a photo trip planned that never came together. I may get back to this one eventually.
@Cloventt After a discussion with Giantflightlessbirds about priorities for the Ashburton project, I have gone ahead with expansion of this article, and made some progrss today. Lots more to do. Please chip in if you want, but I understand that you have many other commitments. :)_Marshelec (talk) 05:05, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Wainuiomartian I am currently working on developing this article about Ashburton Domain, as part of supporting the project Wikipedia:GLAM/Ashburton. This has brought my attention to an eminent landscape gardener, William Walter Smith, who was an important influence in early conservation initiatives in New Zealand, leading to the establishment of programmes for Crown purchase of land of scenic and historic interest. At present, the article about Smith is a very small stub. I have found several good sources, because Smith's work has been extensively researched by Michael Roche, Emeritus Professor at Massey University. I have added some sources at the bottom of the stub article. I wondered if expanding this bio might interest you ?_Marshelec (talk) 21:17, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
