Anudi's compelling presence, combined with her impactful "Beauty with a Purpose" project titled Saheli, has resonated deeply with audiences. Her initiative addresses menstrual health and hygiene, providing essential products and education to nearly 10,000 girls and women across Sri Lanka. Notably, she has engaged with policymakers, including a meeting with Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, to advocate for reducing taxes on menstrual products, aiming to alleviate period poverty in the country. Her dedication and advocacy have not only elevated her profile but also brought significant attention to Sri Lanka on the international stage. Vinurarulzwiki (talk) 21:41, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Even Shiranthi Wickremesinghe who was a title holder ex First Lady of Sri Lanka doesn’t have a page.
Why don't you create one? The community would also help by citing her achievements, and contributions for a corruption free governance.
Both Shiranthi Wickremesinghe and Anudi Gunasekara passes the Wikipedia Notability criterion. So, if you have an issue of one having a page and other not having one, what you should do is not try to delete Anudi Gunasekara's page but go and make a page for Shiranthi Wickremesinghe.
The solution to this is not deleting the page of Miss Gunasekara but creating one for Mrs Rajapaksha as they're both noteworthy characters in their own right. Samsaib (talk) 04:58, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
For your reference, (not that it matters whether she has a page or not when we are discussing about Anudi) Shiranthi has a Wikepedia page in Sinhaleese.
Anudi won a national title, she founded a meaningful project Saheli. And already becoming a personality that represents the values and culture of Sri Lanka. In my opinion she should have a Wikepedia page. 112.134.216.190 (talk) 07:13, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly object to the proposed deletion of the Wikipedia page for Anudi Gunasekara. Her participation and notable achievements in the ongoing Miss World 2025 pageant, coupled with the significant impact of her humanitarian work, clearly establish her notability under Wikipedia's guidelines for biographies of living persons and public figures.
Here are the key reasons justifying the retention of her page:
Official Representation in a Major International Event: Anudi Gunasekara is the official representative of Sri Lanka at the 72nd Miss World pageant, a globally recognized and the oldest existing international beauty competition. Representing a nation at an event of this scale inherently confers a degree of public interest and notability.
Significant Achievements in Miss World 2025 Preliminary Challenges:
Talent Challenge Finalist: Anudi has successfully qualified as a Top 48 Continental Qualifier for the Asia and Oceania group in the Miss World Talent Challenge. Furthermore, she has been explicitly named among the Top 24 finalists in the Talent competition. This is a substantial achievement in a competition featuring 107 delegates from around the world.
"Trending Contestant" Status in Head-to-Head Challenge: She has been officially recognized as a "Trending Contestant" on the Miss World official website during the crucial Head-to-Head Challenge. This indicates significant positive attention and engagement, highlighting her communication skills and public resonance within the pageant.
Impactful "Beauty With a Purpose" (BWAP) Project: The "Beauty With a Purpose" segment is a cornerstone of the Miss World competition, emphasizing humanitarian efforts. Anudi's "Saheli Project" is a nationwide menstrual health mission in Sri Lanka that demonstrates substantial real-world impact:
It has already reached nearly 10,000 girls and women across the country.
Her initiative involves policy advocacy, including a meeting with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka to propose critical changes like reducing taxes on menstrual products. This level of engagement with national policy-makers signifies a significant and verifiable impact beyond typical charitable work.
The project is supported by a wide array of reputable organizations, including Rotary, Lions, and Leo Clubs, as well as hospitals, prisons, and various NGOs. This broad support network further validates the project's credibility and reach.
Public Interest and Media Coverage: Her participation and achievements, particularly her BWAP project, have garnered attention, as evidenced by her "Trending Contestant" status on the official Miss World platform and mentions in various news outlets covering the pageant.
Anudi Gunasekara is not merely a participant but a notable figure actively contributing to a major international event and driving significant social change through her well-documented initiatives. Her achievements and the public interest surrounding her journey at Miss World 2025 clearly meet the criteria for notability on Wikipedia. Deleting her page would be a disservice to the verifiable information available and the public's interest in her ongoing contributions. DoctorD83 (talk) 19:03, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Subject has won a major national pageant (Miss World Sri Lanka 2024) and represented the country at Miss World 2025. She became the first Sri Lankan to reach the Talent Challenge finals in Miss World history. These accomplishments are covered in multiple reliable and independent sources, meeting Wikipedia's notability guidelines for biographies. Indunil Chamara (talk) 20:33, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This is not just representing. She is already carrying the Miss World Sri Lanka 2024 crown. And notably, she made history for Sri Lanka by progressing into multiple challenge events in Miss World competition for Sri Lanka first time in the history. Additionally, she has made a social impact and a social change towards pageantry that many envy people cannot cope up with. Let she to be include in Wikipedia with already enough evidences to surpass the notability criteria. Indunil Chamara (talk) 19:11, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
