Entries for disambiguation pages
[edit]Disambiguation pages are meant to help readers find a specific existing article quickly and easily. For that reason, every entry should have a link to one article - that article should either be about the entry specifically (like Andem, Gabon) or be included/mentioned in the article (like Andemtenga Department). For Andem, there are undoubtedly many things and people whose names include 'Andem' but if they are not discussed in a Wikipedia article, then they don't belong on the disambiguation page, even if there are external references that prove their existence.
- I found a reference for 'Andem' in Bene Ephraim, so I have added that.
- I could find no mention of a biblical reference made by Jacob of Serugh or a ship called Andem, so I have deleted those entries
- Wikipedia is not an urban dictionary, so I have deleted that entry as well.
If these are notable topics, they could perhaps be added to existing articles. Leschnei (talk) 21:32, 17 March 2020 (UTC)

William Ellery Andem
[edit]Hi Team, I am a History student and new to Wikipedia. I was updating a finding from Archives of the Providence, RI library (very old bits and pieces). I am sorry if my English is bad as I am originally from Mexico as a international student at Brown. Please help correct my mistakes in appending the new findings of the below information that I found from Archives.
"William Ellery Andem" (died 1764), a very close friend of Samuel Ward gave his estate which he built from the spice trade from Machilipatnam, India to the foundation of Rhode Island College, now Brown University. The street (Andem St) where he lived is named in his honor by Samuel Ward in Providence, Rhode Island."
How do I add this new finding from my research at archives to Wikipedia, please help as I am new to editing Wikipedia.

- The process starts with you giving a specific bibliographic citation to a reliable source. DMacks (talk) 05:04, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
DMacks I think it makes sense to help Ms.Smith with the article on "William Ellery Andem". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.98.31.20 (talk) 00:59, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- As multiple editors have said, we're happy to help write, but someone has to provide actual cites to the specific sources. So far, that editor has not done so, despite several requests. Do you have some? DMacks (talk) 07:03, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- DMacks it makes sense to help credit atleast a few lines to "William Ellery Andem" who helped donate his estate after his death in 1764, to my alma mater Brown University. 97.105.188.42 (talk) 11:54, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- Cite it. No matter how many times anyone says anything, no content can be added until someone provides an actual bibliographic citation so that others can look it up themselves also. This is a Wikipedia policy. Presumably you mean alma mater not alumna? DMacks (talk) 17:55, 1 January 2025 (UTC)
- DMacks I am also new to Wikipedia and originally from Machilipatnam, India. There used to be an ancient stone/bronze statue of "William Ellery Andem" in my town near the port yard, with a mention in local Telugu and Tamil inscriptions that he helped construct the port which today is the key economy of the city, before leaving India sometime during 1730's (not sure of the exact date). This statue was adjacent to my grandfather's home and as a kid/teenager, we used to hang out near the statue some 50 years ago while attending middle school. I think sometime in the late 1960s after India's independence, when I was in Medical school in a nearby town, the statue of "William Ellery Andem" was moved or destroyed due to new road expansion/construction. Not sure if the person in the statue " William Ellery Andem" is the same one this History student found out about and asked to create a new page for him. Just providing what I know from my childhood - most of Machilipatnam today looks totally different - a modern city with paved roads and glass buildings - when I visited India last year for my grand niece's wedding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:1F7B:5810:342D:19B6:2EBF:18FE (talk) 18:36, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
