Relevant details and biographical content

This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.

As an editor with a stated conflict of interest, I am asking the Wiki community to revise this article and remove the content not relevant to this biography. Specifically, in the NYC Planning Commission subsection:

Please remove the 4th paragraph which is a coatrack violation. It quotes Bloomberg and is not directly relevant to Burden.
Please remove the 7th paragraph as it presents original research, misleadingly suggesting a correlation between the Furman Center's findings and Burden's policies and efforts despite Burden not being mentioned in the source.

DLARoss I removed a sentence in the 7th paragraph that can be considered original research. I believe that the 4th paragraph, when read in context, clarifies the the Bloomberg and Burden's position, which seems to side-step the affordability issue. Seems legit to me so I left it. While editing the article, I removed some uncited claims. The claim of a birth date remains uncited in a reliable source. Best, --WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 16:09, 9 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much WomenArtistUpdates for you review and response. I have done some additional research and found sourcing for much of the material you removed as uncited.

In the Career section, her role as Commissioner of NYC Planning Commission under Bloomberg can be sourced by this Rethinking the Future article and this intro on the Diane Rehm podcast.

The New York Times article, currently used as source 5 in the article, states that Burden was a public school teacher in Harlem in the early 1970s and can be used again for this fact.

In the Honors section:

Burden, then 22, was named to the Best Dressed List of the New York Couture Group in 1966, replacing Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who had graduated to the Best Dressed List's Hall of Fame. See sources Time Magazine, Vanity Fair, Huffington Post, and an additional Vanity Fair article.

In 2009, Burden was awarded the J.C. Nichols Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development, granting the prize money to the Urban Land Institute to establish a new prize. See sources The Architect's Newspaper, 2009, The Architectural Record, and Crain's Detroit

Burden received the American Architectural Foundation's Keystone Award in 2011. (sourced in The Architect's Newspaper, 2011)

In addition, this research led me to find two additional awards that are not currently mentioned in this article:

Sourcing:

Neither source has the "Principle at Bloomberg" bit, but the first half is sourced.
"the couple had two children while Ms. Burden worked as a public school teacher in Harlem, but they divorced in 1972" - says teacher, not aide. Also is rather fuzzy on the years, but definitely supports that she did do this at some point early in her career
Awards all look good, sourcing-wise.

@DLARoss, you can reinstate the sourced parts of the first two points and the awards up to "In 2011, Burden received the American Architectural Foundation Keystone Award."; would need to think more about how the language of the remaining description should be adjusted if you want to reinstate that.

Thank you Rusalkii for taking a look and reviewing all of this. I have reinstated as per your approval above. This is my suggestion for the two remaining awards:

In 2012, the Architectural League of New York granted Burden the President's Medal.^[1] Columbia University awarded Burden an Honorary Doctorate in 2016.^[2]
