I suspect that this article is canoing related, if only by the mention of gorge, difficulty and commenting on the classic section... of the River Wye. Perhaps someone who knows, rather than one who speculates, might one day edit this article. LessHeard vanU 22:24, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What exactly is this?

[edit]

According to the article, this "is a river close to the Llangurig to Rhayader section of the River Wye" with an "approximate length" of "2 kilometres" (or if you like, "about a mile"!). It would seem, therefore, that this is a very minor tributary of the Wye, apparently. There must be scores of small streams which feed the Wye in this section of its course alone. Just why is this so notable? Is there really anything more to be said here? I'm tagging this, unreferenced as it is, for lack of notability. Enaidmawr (talk) 18:17, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, given the nature of the handful of other contributions by the sole author (see Special:Contributions/Brees321), I am inclined to suspect this might be a hoax, even if a stream of this name does exist. Enaidmawr (talk) 18:24, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Simply because of the terminology I wondered if this was canoeing (I doubt it would be "white water rafting") related, and therefore the notability resting upon the stretch of water being recognised within that discipline (like a beach might be for surfing). Now that I am more jaded wiser, I wonder if it is a WP:COPYVIO by a vandal to appear to be a legit editor before starting a vandal spree...? Perhaps it should be deleted under notability concerns, since it can be recreated easily enough if there are the references. LessHeard vanU (talk) 21:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're right about the copy vio (see here). Now where does that leave us? Enaidmawr (talk) 23:40, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revised

[edit]

I've rewritten the article to be geographically accurate, and included a couple of references to fishing. That may be enough for notability. I didn't include this reference about canoeing, which is what the original author used, because it implies that canoeing is illegal. If the article stays, should it perhaps be moved to "Afon Marteg" (its name on the OS maps) with a redirect from "River Marteg"? JohnCD (talk) 14:47, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I agree it should meet notability now, as it turns out to be nearer 12 km in length rather than the 2 km given in the original text. I also thought the Welsh form afon for "river" would be more likely for a small river but lacked an OS map to check (my nearest one stops a few miles short!). I'll move it to Afon Marteg then. Also removed the tag. Enaidmawr (talk) 21:55, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
