Unclear sentence

"The name Adonis was given to Said [{Artun Saada]], the leader of the Syrian Socialist Nationalist Party." (1) Should this be "The name Adonis was given to Said by [[[Artun Saada]], the leader of the Syrian Socialist Nationalist Party"? And is the Syrian Socialist Nationalist Party distinct from the Syrian National Party mentioned in the next sentence? -- Jmabel | Talk 04:54, 25 October 2005 (UTC) Thanks for catching that. According the the wikipedia article, the Syrian Socialist Nationalist Party is redirected to the Syrian National Party and the dude's name is Antun not Artun. Thank you again, I will fix the sentence. Joaquin Murietta 05:15, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

Syrian National Party

The description here of Syrian National Party as "quasi-fascist" is probably controversial. I personally think it is correct, but it has been removed from that article for lack of good citation. -- Jmabel | Talk 04:59, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

"Seemingly prophetic"

In what sense is "The Funeral of New York" "seemingly prophetic"? Since that can hardly be an objective description, whose is it? - Jmabel | Talk 06:37, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

I added that when I changed the writing date of "Funeral" from "after 9/11" to "early 70's". According to the professor under which I was briefly introduced to Adonis, the "prophetic" moniker has been a common depiction of the poem since 9/11. Nobel

What is the basis for the weasel-worded "Said was considered to be a candidate for both the 2005 and 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature…"? Considered by whom? - Jmabel | Talk 01:05, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

Ladbrokes, the British bookies, have consistently given good odds to Adonis winning the Nobel. Whether or not this means the Nobel Committee actually considered him is, of course, another story. It would be fair to say that Adonis has been mentioned as a potential Nobel prize winner. Change article title to Adonis

Every serious reference to the poet Adonis, before the Nobel prize, refers to him as Adonis. It is reasonable to follow suit in Wikipedia.Politis (talk) 14:54, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

This poet is far, far better known by his pen-name Adonis, yet we have to wade through quite a bit of Arabic and other stuff to get to that. At this late hour, I have no particular bright idea as to how to fix this. Perhaps before I come back in a couple of days and in all likelihood do something stupid, somebody else might like to have a go? Palmiro | Talk 20:40, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Name spelling: Adunis vs Adonis

Wikipedia seems to be about the only place in the world where this poet's pen name is spelled Adunis instead of Adonis. I understand that there is a common rule now of transliterating Arabic (classic) U-vowel always as U instead of, as it was done until a few years ago, as O (older version: Mohammed, now always: Muhammad. But this general transcription rule should not go against normal use. And as far as I can see, the poet Adonis is referred to always as Adonis, and hardly ever as Adunis, in any media written in Latin script, be it French, English, Spanish... If there is not a good reason for keeping the U-spelling (for example a clear consensus that in the last years English media & editors prefer Adunis), I would advocate to move the page to Adonis (poet). Adunis is almost never ever used in media that persistently calls him Adonis. We should go back to the title Adonis (poet) and make Adunis a redirectwerldwayd (talk) 10:41, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

The name -- yet again

It has been repeatedly suggested here that the article title should be Adonis with an O, which is how the author is pretty universally known in the English-speaking world. I don't see anyone on these pages arguing in favor of Adunis with a U.

The greatest absurdity is that the article itself refers to the poet as Adonis-with-an-O almost exclusively. He's Adonis throughout the text, he's Adonis in the sidebar, he's Adonis in the Wikimedia Commons box... It's nonsensical to use one spelling as the article title and another in the article itself. Can't someone be bold and retitle this? Greenpig (talk) 18:38, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

This has been proposed many times but no implementation. There is no media outlets calling him Adunis. We need change to Adonis (poet) werldwayd (talk) 10:44, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
