100% width parameter etc.

[edit]

The 100% width parameter does not keep the tables uniform. If the columns are non-uniform without that parameter, then when the 100% width parameter is added, all the column widths will increase in the same proportion, and they will still be non-uniform. Also, the sorting feature is meant to be used with large tables. It is not helpful with small tables of 1, 2, 3, 4 ... rows. If the table were to expand to a much larger number of rows, it's easy to add back in the sorting feature. Even then, it is usually unhelpful to sort on the "Notes" column. Also, what is the purpose of inserting a line break between the "|" (at the start of the cell) and the text? Ehrenkater (talk) 17:57, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As I noted in the revision note, 2025 in paleomammalogy (and all 2025 in paleontology sub articles) are living documents which will grow through the end of 2025 before settling into a final semi-stable state. Given that essentally all of the other 200+ YEAR in paleontology lists use the formatting that is already in place here, this maintains list consistency throughout. The 100% parameter automatically matches the width of the SCREEEN that the article is viewed upon, removing it results in tables that have wildly differing total widths and a much less accessible look. I edit at home on a wide screen, at work on a old narrow screen, and occasionally on my phone. The 100% parameter matches the widths on each to that of the surrounding prose. The sorting feature is meant... Its also not anywhere prohibited from use on smaller tables, its only generally given as a suggestion that its functionality become more visible with large tables. Thus its just as easy to default to sorting and not have to worry about deciding on an arbitrary point to readd it. We also generally assume most readers are competent enough to see that sorting the notes section will likely not garner any meaningful results. Where are you see a |<br> in the article?
