Suvrat Kakoti

Subrata Kakoti (born 13 April 1993), known professionally as Suvrat Kakoti or SUV, is an Indian actor, director and producer working in Assamese cinema. He gained prominence with his debut feature film Sri Raghupati (2023), which set box-office records in Assam, followed by the critically acclaimed film Bidurbhai (2023).

Early life and education

Kakoti was born in Golaghat, Assam. His parents were involved in theatre, which sparked his early interest in storytelling. He completed his high school education in Golaghat and developed a passion for filmmaking after watching 3 Idiots (2009). Due to financial constraints, he couldn't pursue formal film education and instead taught himself filmmaking techniques while working as a wedding videographer.[1]

Breakthrough with Sri Raghupati

Kakoti's career began when actor Ravi Sarma offered him the opportunity to direct Sri Raghupati (2023). The film became a commercial success and set new box-office records in Assamese cinema, establishing Kakoti as a promising new filmmaker.[2]

Success with Bidurbhai and other projects

In 2023, Kakoti wrote and directed the comedy-drama film Bidurbhai, which emerged as one of the highest-grossing Assamese films of the year and received critical praise for its social commentary.[3] The film's success led to a Hindi-language adaptation announced in 2024.[4]

Kakoti also created the web series Bidurbhai and Illegal. His directorial style focuses on mass-oriented cinema that blends humor with social commentary while reflecting Assamese cultural identity.[1]

Kakoti co-founded Rootstock Entertainments Private Limited with Arnab Hazarika, serving as director of the production company.[5]

Personal life
