Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Hospital (Malay: Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, abbr: HSAAS), formerly known as Hospital Pengajar UPM, is a teaching hospital that managed and operated by UPM. The location is adjacent to UPM's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Serdang Hospital.
History
[edit]As UPM established the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1996, there was a suggestion to build a teaching hospital adjacent to the faculty. However, due to different intention between UPM and Ministry of Health (KKM), the Serdang Hospital did not served as teaching hospital of UPM, but became a public hospital fully under KKM. Radin Umar Radin Sohadi, the Vice-Chancellor of UPM send a paperwork to the Cabinet on 14 October 2011, request for cooperation between UPM and KKM, to achieve the purpose of teaching, research and clinical services. After discussion between the parties, UPM decided to build a teaching hospital as blue ocean strategy.
The project started on 11 September 2012, KKM provided support and cooperated with UPM. The new hospital positioned itself as complementary of Serdang Hospital, specialise in field of stroke, prostate, geriatric and zoonotic.[1] The construction started on 27 October 2014 and completed on 15 March 2019, with contract price of as much RM 582,227,497.73 (original contract price is RM 488 millions).[2]
On 28 February 2023, the hospital was officiated by Sharafuddin of Selangor, and named after the first Chancellor of UPM, Salahuddin of Selangor.[1]
