Simone Baldelli (born 25 October 1972) is an Italian politician from Forza Italia. He has been a member of the Chamber of Deputies from 2006 to 2022.[1]

Biography

Salesian classical high school of the "Sacro Cuore" in Rome, degree in political science, journalist, satirical cartoonist, impersonator, singer-songwriter, Simone Baldelli represents a unicum in the Italian political panorama and, ultimately, also in the artistic one. He was the leader of the Forza Italia youth movement from 1999 to 2006, regional councilor in Lazio from 2000 to 2005, deputy from 2006 to 2022, vice president of the Chamber of Deputies for 5 years and contract professor of parliamentary law. His intense political-parliamentary activity has been characterized by a series of battles on constitutional reforms (for the Constitutional Convention and against the "cut of parliamentarians") and on the front of the protection of consumer rights (he was president of the Parliamentary Commission for the protection of users and consumers), motorists and populations affected by the earthquake in central Italy (he proposed and obtained, with the consent of all political forces, to allocate the savings of Montecitorio to reconstruction: 47 million in 2016, 80 million in 2017, 85 million in 2018, 100 million in 2019, 40 million in 2020, 35 in 2021). Since October 2022 he has resumed his journalistic activity, writing articles and comments on politics and economics in various national newspapers (Huffington Post, Milano Finanza, Corriere della Sera, Espresso). In January 2025 he was appointed President of the Observatory on road sanctions at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

Politic life

From a young age, he was active in the Socialist Youth Movement. In 1992 and 1993, he attended the “Walter Tobagi” cadre training school of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI). Between 1994 and 1995, he served as an elected member of the National Council of the Club Pannella – Reformers. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as the head of the private office of the President of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on RAI (12th Legislature) and, from 1996 to 2000, with the Presidency of the Committee on Election Procedures of the Chamber of Deputies (13th Legislature). From 1995 to 2000, he was a satirical cartoonist for the daily newspaper L’Opinione and other publications. In 1996, he joined the emerging Youth Movement of Forza Italia, becoming National Deputy Coordinator in 1998. At the 1st National Congress of Forza Italia Youth, held in Rome on December 11–12, 1999, at the Auditorium del Massimo, he was unanimously elected National Coordinator. In April 2000, he was elected as a Regional Councillor for Lazio (7th Legislature). During these years, he built and organized the youth movement, founding Alternativa Studentesca for high school students and Studenti per le Libertà, which fielded candidates in university elections. Together with the Training Division of the political movement, led by Don Gianni Baget Bozzo, he promoted a national political training event held annually in Cortona, Tuscany, during the fall. During this time, he also created a council of young elected officials in local governments. At the 2nd Forza Italia Congress, held in Assago from May 27–29, 2004, he was elected as the youngest member of Forza Italia’s Presidential Committee. In April 2006, he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for the Marche constituency, becoming Floor Manager for the Forza Italia parliamentary group and a member of the Public and Private Labor Committee. Re-elected in 2008, he served as Deputy Leader with floor duties for the People of Freedom (PdL) parliamentary group. In 2013, he was re-elected Vice-Chair of the PdL group in the Chamber of Deputies, with floor duties, and on December 25, he was elected Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies with 274 votes. On March 24, 2014, Silvio Berlusconi appointed him to Forza Italia’s Presidential Committee, a role he held until 2023. Among his significant contributions was the 2018 Budget Law amendment, unanimously approved by all political forces, which limited the duration of backdated utility bill adjustments to a maximum of two years, thus ending years of parliamentary battles against excessive utility bills. Re-elected in 2018 (Marche 1 constituency), he resumed his role as Deputy Leader and Floor Manager for Forza Italia in the Chamber of Deputies. In 2020, he became one of the most visible proponents of the “NO” campaign in the referendum on reducing the number of parliamentarians. His constitutional law proposal to establish a National Elective Convention for the reform of the second part of the Constitution garnered the support of 150 deputies across all parliamentary groups, except for Brothers of Italy, which had proposed a similar measure in the same legislature. In October 2021, the Chamber approved his proposal to establish a Parliamentary Committee for Consumer Protection, and in December, he was elected its chair. He conducted extensive hearings with key regulatory authorities and consumer advocacy groups. As chair, he promoted the first celebration of World Consumer Rights Day at the Chamber of Deputies on March 15, 2022, in the presence of Speaker Roberto Fico, heads of national authorities, and consumer association representatives. He did not run for re-election in the 2022 general elections. He is currently head of the national department for consumer protection in Forza Italia. At the 2024 National Congress, he was elected to Forza Italia’s National Council. Since May 2024, he has served as Secretary General of Forza Italia’s parliamentary group in the Senate.

Artistic activity:

Since he was a boy he has shown passion and aptitude for music and acting, activities that he carries out within recreational and extracurricular activities. In December 2001, at the Ennio Flaiano theater in Rome, he performed, with the journalistic presentation of Arturo Diaconale, the direction of Federico Lampredi and the musical accompaniment of Domenico Severino, a “one man show” of political satire with impersonations, cartoons, poems in Roman dialect and songs with adapted texts. In 2009 he made a satirical video with a performance of impersonations, in which, thanks to the work of professional make-up artists, he retraces the scheme of the “triple” interview of the program Le Iene, interpreting parodies of three leading exponents of the PdL: Fabrizio Cicchitto, Giulio Tremonti and Sandro Bondi. Since 2010 he has participated in some collective painting exhibitions and in March 2011 he held a personal exhibition of his works painted on plexiglass at the Extra space in Rome. In October 2012 he created, produced and presented to the public a photographic book entitled “Centoserrande”, which, together with the related website www.centoserrande.it, publicizes and relaunches the urban artistic trend of shutter painting in Rome and other cities. In March 2015, with the release of the book of cartoons entitled “Stai sereno! Mica tanto...”, he gave life to a political satire show that was brought to halls and theaters around Italy, in which in addition to the commentary on the cartoons, a parody of well-known figures from politics and journalism, such as Paolo Del Debbio, was staged. In 2017 he gave a visit to the band Padri di figlie femmine, with which he created a series of benefit concerts that over time became a musical show entitled “Tutta un’altra musica”, which constitutes a journey through some of the greatest hits of Latin music. In November 2018 he participated as an impersonator of the Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, in the first episode of the Mediaset network program entitled “Mai dire Talk”, hosted by Mago Forrest and the Gialappa’s Band. From 2020 to 2024 he studied singing at the Scuola popolare di musica di Testaccio. In April 2025 he gave rise to a parody of the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, which went viral on social media.
