Sasanka Samir (born 3 September 1982), fondly known as Tinku, is an Indian actor, director, writer, lyricist, and composer known for his contributions to Assamese cinema and television. He gained prominence for directing, writing, and scripting the biographical drama Bhaimon Da (2025), which pays tribute to legendary Assamese filmmaker Munin Barua. Samir has also made significant contributions to the television series Beharbari Outpost and various Assamese films and music projects.

Early life and education

Sasanka Samir was born on 3 September 1982 in Bormuria Goan, Assam, India. He completed his schooling at Saint Mary’s School, Lakhimpur, and Government High Secondary School, Lakhimpur. He graduated from North Lakhimpur College, where he was recognized as the Best Actor and Best Director by the institution.[1]

Career

Samir began his career in 2013 with his acting debut in the Assamese film Akash Chuboloi Mon, directed by Manash Hazarika, earning a nomination for Best Supporting Role.[1] He has since worked as an actor, director, writer, lyricist, and composer across films, television, and digital media.

Film

In 2025, Samir directed, wrote the screenplay, and penned dialogues for Bhaimon Da, a biographical drama about Assamese filmmaker Munin Barua. The film, released on 23 May 2025, grossed ₹14.16 crore, becoming the highest-grossing Assamese film by surpassing Sri Raghupati (₹13.81 crore).[2] The film highlights the struggles and milestones of the Assamese film industry and pays tribute to figures like Brajen Baruah.[3] Other notable films include Gaane Ki Aane (2016, music department), Kanchanjangha (2019, actor), Ratnakar, Semkhor, and Aei Maatite (2017).[1]

Television

Samir is known for writing 3,234 episodes of the popular Assamese television series Beharbari Outpost (2013–2025). He also starred in the series Mayurpankhi and wrote its title song, sung by Zubeen Garg.[1]

Music and other works

As a lyricist and composer, Samir has contributed songs such as Jyotir Kareng (from Bhaimon Da), Dhulikona, Priti Bhora, and Rodor Sithi, available on platforms like JioSaavn, Apple Music, and Gaana.[1] He starred in the YouTube short film The Radio Guy, which garnered over 100,000 views, and narrated audiobooks for Storytel India.[1]
