Sanjay Ghodawat (born 28 February 1965) is an Indian businessman, industrialist, educationalist, and philanthropist. He is the founder and chairman of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group,[1] a diversified conglomerate based in Maharashtra, India.[2] He is also a member of the Jain community and has served as chairman of the Jain International Trade Organization (JITO) Kolhapur[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Sanjay Ghodawat was born in Maharashtra into a Jain family,[4] He holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed pilot for helicopters, airplanes, and gliders.[5]
Business and career
[edit]Sanjay Ghodawat founded the Sanjay Ghodawat Group in the early 1990s. Under his leadership, the group has diversified into sectors including aviation (Star Air), education, FMCG, renewable energy, textiles, real estate, and mining.[6][7] The group employs over 10,000 people and has a significant presence in India and abroad.[8]
He also established Sanjay Ghodawat University (in 2017),[9] which offers programs in engineering, management, pharmacy, architecture, and liberal arts.[10]
Awards and recognition
[edit]Sanjay Ghodawat has received multiple awards and honours for his contributions to industry and society. These include the Ahimsa International Award for corporate social responsibility,[11] the Bhartiya Udyog Ratna Award, the Suryadatta National Award, the Economic Times Award for Inspiring Business Leaders, and the Jain Ratna Award.[12] He has also been recognised for his philanthropic initiatives in education, rural development, and COVID-19 relief.[13]
