Roofman is an upcoming American crime comedy-drama film directed by Derek Cianfrance. The film stars Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, Jimmy O. Yang, and Peter Dinklage.

Roofman is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025, and is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 10, 2025 by Paramount Pictures and Miramax.

Premise

[edit]

The film is a biopic of the fugitive Jeffrey Manchester, a former United States Army Reserve officer, known colloquially as Roofman due to his propensity to steal from branches of McDonald's after entering their premises via the roof. Most notably, he evaded capture by police by hiding in the wall of a Toys "R" Us store.[2]

Cast

Production

[edit]

The project was announced in February 2024 with Derek Cianfrance as director from a script he wrote alongside Kirt Gunn. The screenplay was based on an earlier script by David Stephens and Peter Petrucci.[3] Dylan Sellers and Chris Parker produced through the Limelight production company alongside Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell Taylor. Channing Tatum plays Roofman.[4] Ben Mendelsohn and Kirsten Dunst joined the cast in September 2024.[5][6] In October 2024, Miramax acquired distribution rights to the project, with parent Paramount Pictures distributing on its behalf in the United States and United Kingdom. Financed by Aperture Media Partners, FilmNation Entertainment handled international sales. Peter Dinklage, Uzo Aduba, Juno Temple, LaKeith Stanfield, Molly Price, Melonie Diaz, Lily Collias, Emory Cohen, and Tony Revolori joined the cast.[7][8][9]

Principal photography began on October 24, 2024, in Gastonia, North Carolina.[10] Filming wrapped on December 12, 2024.[11] Cinematographer Andrij Parekh shot the film on 35mm, marking his second collaboration with Cianfrance.[12] Some of the filming locations include Freedom Park, Mecklenburg County Jail North, and the Gaston County Courthouse. Jim Helton edited the film.[13]
