Richárd Végh (born 12 June 2001) is a Hungarian freestyle wrestler competing in the 97 kg class. He won the bronze medal at the 2025 European Wrestling Championships, marking Hungary’s first podium in his category since 1986.[1][2]
Career
[edit]Végh emerged from Hungary’s junior program, competing across U23 events with a 3rd place finish at the 2022 European U23 Championships in Romania.[3]
In April 2025, at the European Championships held in Bratislava, Végh secured bronze in the 97 kg class. He lost the semifinal to Givi Matcharashvili of Georgia, then defeated Batyrbek Tsakulov of Slovakia by technical points in the third-place match.[4][5][6][7]
Earlier in 2025, he finished 9th at both the Zagreb Open and the Tirana Ranking Series II tournaments, gaining valuable international experience.[1]
During the qualification season, Végh ranked 12th in UWW's world standings, securing a 4–2 win-loss record for the year.[1]
