Rheinmetall Automecanica SRL was established in 2007 as Automecanica Mediaș SRL. It produces special vehicles, truck build-ons, and trailers for the civilian and military market. In 2023, Rheinmetall acquired the majority stake, and the company changed its name to Rheinmetall Automecanica SRL. The company's future plans include producing and maintaining Lynx armoured fighting vehicles and the Rheinmetall HX series of tactical trucks.

History

[edit]

When the Automecanica SA company was transformed into an industrial park in 2007, its production branch was separated into a new company, thus forming the new Automecanica Mediaș SRL.[2] The majority stake of the company was held by Nick Știrban, who also worked as the company's Managing Director.[3] The company specialized in the steel and ironworking industry, manufacturing trailer components, metal stairways, special containers, and truck build-ons. Automecanica Mediaș cooperated with the other companies based in the Automecanica industrial park, as well as international companies.[4] In 2022, it began cooperating with the Rheinmetall company and opened maintenance and repair facility for military vehicles in Satu Mare.[5]

On 3 November 2023, Rheinmetall acquired the majority stake of 72.5% from the company, with the rest of the shares remaining private. The company changed its name to Rheinmetall Automecanica SRL and was inaugurated in 2024.[6] With the acquisition of Automecanica, Rheinmetall plans to continue the company's product range while also starting production of the RMMV HX range of tactical trucks. Other future plans include maintaining the anti-aircraft systems of the Romanian Armed Forces as well as producing the Lynx armoured fighting vehicles.[5][7]
