From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Raj Mishra', a 37-year-old Indian-origin Conservative councillor, is the Mayor of Wellingborough, a historic market town in Northamptonshire, England. Elected as the fifth mayor of Wellingborough Town Council on May 13, 2025, Mishra's journey from a small village in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, to British public office is a testament to his dedication and resilience. Born as the sixth of nine children to a farming family, he pursued a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Punjab Technical University before moving to the UK in 2016 to complete a master's in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Leicester. He also holds a Data Science certification from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

With over 15 years of experience in the IT industry, including roles at the UK Ministry of Defence and in the banking sector, Mishra transitioned to public service, joining the Conservative Party in March 2025. He won a local council seat from Victoria Ward on May 3, 2025, before being elected mayor. His leadership is rooted in active listening, integrity, and collaboration, with a vision to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and prosperous Wellingborough. Mishra’s core priorities include economic development, environmental sustainability, community engagement, and infrastructure investment. He champions accessible parking, youth opportunities, and sustainable initiatives like cleaner energy and waste reduction.

As mayor, Mishra presides over council meetings, serves as a civic representative, and supports local charities, selecting the Veterans Community Network and Louisa Gregory’s Hospice Campaign for his 2025-26 term. His commitment extends to raising funds and awareness for these organisations while promoting open dialogue through town hall forums and digital platforms. A chartered engineer by profession, Mishra balances his role with a strong connection to his roots, inspiring the Indian diaspora and rural youth globally. He resides in Wellingborough with his wife, Abhishekta, an engineer from Pratapgarh, and their two daughters. His election has sparked pride in his hometown of Bhatehara, Mirzapur, where his family celebrates his achievements as a beacon of hope and multiculturalism.
