Kentucky Broodmare of the Year 2024

Puca is an American thoroughbred mare racehorse, who raced from 2014-2017 for Donegal Racing. She is out of Boat's Ghost, by the sire, Big Brown.[1]

Puca is the only broodmare in history to produce two full siblings to win classics: 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage and 2024 Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch. This led to her being named Kentucky Broodmare of the Year for 2024.[2]

In 2018, she was sold to Grandview Equine for $475,000.[1] In 2019, she foaled Gunning by Gun Runner.[3] She was bred to Good Magic in both 2020 and 2021, producing Mage[4] and Dornoch.[5] In 2022, she foaled Baeza by McKinzie.[6]

In 2023, she was sold to Resolute Racing for $2,900,000.[1] In 2024, she had a colt by Good Magic, nicknamed Preaky after the Preakness, who is in training to race in 2026. In 2025, she had a filly by Good Magic.[2]
