The Powhatan Renape Nation is a state recognized tribe in New Jersey. It is not a federally recognized American Indian tribe. Members are concentrated in South Jersey and the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
History
[edit]The Powhatan Renape Nation was granted state recognition in New Jersey in 1980. On 18 March, 2019, state recognized was reaffirmed.[1][2][3]
In 1983, the Powhata Renape Nation had around 400 to 500 members.[4]
